Alice Morton Obituary

Alice Euretta (Heister) Morton 1918 - 2006 Alice was born Feb. 12, 1918 to Eugene B. Heister and Pansy Alice Heister in Walla Walla, WA. She passed away in Puyallup, WA on Nov. 13, 2006 at the age of 88. She met Arlo G. Morton in the late 1930's at a church camp and they were married on May 29, 1941. They lived in Tacoma, WA and became the parents of three daughters, Marianne, Joyce, and Anita. Alice and Arlo were faithful members of Summit United Methodist Church. They took in foster children for many years; once their own children were grown they rented their spare room to local college students. Their house was a welcoming, friendly place. Family gatherings always involved a lot of good food and the retelling of funny stories. We will never forget the Great Zucchini Massacre of 1989, and all the wonderful times at Lake Trask. Alice volunteered for years at S.E. Tacoma FISH food bank. She was a 4-H leader and taught Sunday school for many years. She also held many lay positions in the church, especially with UMW. After Arlo's death she moved to Willow Gardens in Puyallup where she had fun making new friends, going on excursions, and especially playing pinochle and baseball. Alice loved to travel and saw every new experience as an adventure. We are enriched by our memories of her; even though we have lost her now, we will always remember her with love. She brightened our lives immeasurably. Alice was preceded in death by her husband Arlo of 53 years, her brother Fred Heister and her sister-in-law Rose Marie (Witt) Heister, her sister-in-law Evelyn (Morton) Hutcheson and her brother-in-law Denny Hutcheson, and her brother-in-law Paul Morton. Alice is survived by her daughters, Marianne (Paul) Bastin, of Puyallup, Joyce (Allan) Heritage, of Spokane, and Anita Goodell, of Spanaway, grandchildren Laura Bastin, Eric (Marianne) Bastin, Heather (Alvin) Smith, Tanya (Dan) Gunther, Holly (Paul) West, and Darcy Heritage, and great-granddaughter Noel Gunther, as well as her sister-in-law Elsie Morton. Memorial services will be held Friday, November 17, 2006 at 2 p.m. at Summit United Methodist Church, 5316 104th St E, Tacoma, WA. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Summit United Methodist Church or S.E. Tacoma FISH. Arrangements by Fir Lane Funeral Home, 253 - 531 - 6600.
