James Gorsky

James Gorsky MECHANICVILLE – James “Giant” Gorsky, 61, of Fort Lauderdale, FL, and formerly of Mechanicville, died suddenly, Sunday, February 16, at the Cleveland Clinic in West Florida, after being stricken at his home. Born in Troy, October 31, 1952, he was the son of the late Joseph and Helen Guile Gorsky. A 1970 graduate of Mechanicville High School, James worked 18 years on the D & H Railroad and then 25 years for Amtrak as a conductor, both locally and later in Florida where he ran the Miami to Tampa line for the past 17 years. Giant was looking forward to enjoying his newly acquired free time, retiring just 2 weeks ago. A Harley Davidson enthusiast, James enjoyed the many rides he took, traveling to many places on his beloved bike. He enjoyed traveling, and could be found front and center anytime there was a karaoke machine nearby. He was a member of the Sons of the American Legion, Post 92, Hollywood, FL. A “gentle” Giant, James was big man with a soft heart. Although he had a small family, he was blessed with the many dear friends that became his large extended family. Survivors include his brother John H. Gorsky, sister Peg Gorsky, and nephew David (Nichole Cerkowski) Gorsky, all from Mechanicville, as well as his good friend and riding buddy Dan Ciepiela. He will be sorely missed by his many cousins and close friends. Calling hours will be held Friday from 4-7PM at the DeVito-Salvadore Funeral Home, 39 S Main St, Mechanicville, NY 12118.
