Benjamin Rivera Obituary

Benjamin S. Rivera 65, passed away peacefully with his loving wife at his side on September 18, 2014. Ben is preceded by his parents, Benjamin and Connie Rivera and his daughter, Teresa D. Silva. Survived by his wife, Virginia of 42 years; his son, Benjamin S. Rivera III; grandchildren, Michael, Nicholas, April, Joseph and Benjamin and his great- granddaughter, Teresa Marie Silva; sisters, Sally Roberts, Betty De La Garza and Emily Alvarez; brothers, Richard Rivera and Michael Rivera. Ben served proudly in the U.S. Marine Corps, retired from DMAFB. Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 25, 2014 from 4:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. at FUNERARIA DEL ANGEL SOUTH LAWN, 5401 South Park Avenue, with a Rosary recited at 7:00 p.m. Mass will be offered Friday, September 26, 2014 at 9:00 a.m. at Saint Augustine Cathedral, 192 S. Stone Avenue. Interment will follow at Southlawn Cemetery.

Virginia and family, my heart aches for you. Ben was such a larger than life person, one of a kind. The world was a much better place just knowing that he was in it. I have many happy memories of him and my father after a hard day of roofing. His laughter would make the walls shake, or so it seemed. It was a sad day on earth when he left us so soon. But our loved ones who have past and the angels in heaven are welcoming him with open arms and grins from ear to ear. Virginia, God bless you and your family and may it give you comfort in knowing that we are all better for knowing him.

Dear Rivera family,
My husband and I worked with Ben for a few years, and appreciated his enthusiasm, hard work, kindness, and especially his sense of humor and camaraderie. His laugh was infectious. We remember when he and some Marine friends invited people from the office to go skydiving with them and a huge group went. It was memorable, scarey and fun. I think Ben organized an anniversary skydive a year later, but I couldn't go. We are really saddened that Benny, a wonderful guy, is no longer with us. We didn't realize he was ill because we lost touch with him, and we are so sorry that we missed offering help. We want to offer our condolences to you, his family.
