Herbert and Marjorie F. PERSON

PERSON, Herbert F. "Herb" PERSON, Marjorie F. "Marge" both former residents of Tucson, passed away on January 22, 2017, and December 28, 2016, respectively, in hospice care in Kirkland, Washington. Herb was born to immigrant parents in Brooklyn, NY on January 6, 1934, and enlisted in the US Navy in 1953. Shortly after completion of the Navy's Electronics School and Fleet Sonar School, Herb was selected as a Naval Aviation Cadet, and was commissioned as an Officer and Naval Aviator in June, 1956. He served for 20 years in the Navy, with 15 of those years as a carrier pilot. Marge was born in Louisville, KY, on September 14, 1929, and spent her "growing up years" in Kentucky, Texas and New Mexico. She moved to the Los Angeles area after high school, working as a switchboard operator and secretary. Herb and Marge met in San Diego, CA in 1958, and were married at the Chapel at North Island Naval Air Station on May 31, 1959. After Herb's retirement from naval service in 1973, the family moved to Tucson in June of that year. Marge continued her noble work as a mother, raising two children. Herb worked for several Tucson firms, finally retiring from Raytheon in 1996. They are survived by a son, Joe; daughter-in-law, Nancy, and two grandchildren. A Celebration of Life for Herb and Marge will be held on Saturday, February 4, 2017, at 10:00 a.m. at Eastside Assembly of God, 1930 S. Wilmot, in Tucson. In lieu of flowers, donations to the National Parkinson Foundation, The Leukemia And Lymphoma Society, or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital are most-appreciated.
