Nicholas Leeming Obituary

Nicholas Reese Leeming of Tucson died of cardiac arrest on March 13, 2010. Nick was born in Peekskill, NY on November 27, 1939. He was the third son of the Rev. Frank C. Leeming and Margaret Adams Leeming (nee Reeder). Father Leeming, who emigrated from England to America as a teenager, founded St. Peter's School in Peekskill, New York after a time as rector of Christ Church in Bordentown, New Jersey, where he met the future Mrs. Leeming, the daughter of Ralph Howard and Emilie Adams Reeder (nee Reese). Nick is survived by two brothers, Michael Newbold Leeming of Tucson and David Adams Leeming of Rhinebeck, New York; a sister, Mary Louise Emilie Moore of Eastham, Massachusetts, and several nieces, nephews and great- nieces. Nick graduated from South Kent School in Connecticut and attended Hobart College. His life stands as a record of his versatility. He worked as a stock broker in New York and California; a hotel manager in New York; a restaurateur in Nantucket, San Francisco, and Wellesley, Massachusetts; a green grocer in Woodstock, Connecticut and San Francisco; a landscaper in Bordentown and Tucson; and as a caterer everywhere he lived. Needless to say, he was a great gardener and cook. Gardening and cooking, in fact, were the two loves of his life (followed closely by singing and dancing), loves that reflected his nurturing nature and his respect for creation in all of its aspects. Most important, Nick was a devout Christian, who lived up to his baptismal vow "to seek and serve Christ in all persons" and to "respect the dignity of every human being." Nick moved to Tucson from Bordentown in 1998 and soon took a job at Grace Saint Paul's Episcopal Church where his talents as a landscaper and caterer will be sorely missed. A Memorial Service will be held at Grace Saint Paul's Church at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 20, 2010. Flowers, preferably native plants that can be re-planted, or memorial donations to the church should be addressed to Grace Saint Paul's Episcopal Church, 2331 East Adams Street, Tucson, AZ 85719. Arrangements by BRING'S MEMORIAL CHAPEL, 236 S. Scott.

Nick -
We have enjoyed 45 year as friends. I will miss our cards, letters and phone calls. I was so looking forward to your visit--but you are with our Lord now. Save a place for me.

I knew Nick for the 8 last years. I didn't know as much about him as I probably should have after all that time. But Nick never made things be about him. He was about helping others. I'm sure he is in a wonderful place now. We definitely miss him down here though.

Nick, you have taken a big piece of my heart. I know through prayer your delightful spirit will fill your space up again. I miss you so much. I will, as always, see your presence in all plants and vegetation, and cookies, and in everything good you have given to me and so many others. I love you.

As long time members of Grace St. Pauls Episcopal church we came to know Nick in his various roles within the church. Always a 'giving' and helpful spirit, Nick's many roles included assistance fo the GSP 'Gasping Geezers' preparing meals for Tucson Primavera to feed the hungry. It is difficult to imagine GSP without Nick 'taking care of everything and everyone. We will miss him enormously!

I will miss his kind spirit and boundless wit, his stories of places he visited. He was a true friend. Heaven got a great landscaper and cook to add to their roster.
