Herbert Miller Obituary

MILLER -- Herbert J., beloved husband, father and grandfather, passed away after a valiant battle with cancer on Monday, December 18, 2006, at the age of 70. Herbie, as he was affectionately known, was born on February 29, 1936, in Tulsa, to Meyer C. and Ida Miller. He graduated from the University of Oklahoma, with a business degree and was a lifelong Sooner fan. At OU, he met the love of his life, Carol (Wittels) Miller, who remained by his side throughout their 47 years of marriage. Professionally, Herb was President of Francis Oil & Gas, later branching out into commerical real estate. In 1989, he purchased Roto Hammer Industries, a leader manufacturer of chain wheels, which he continued to manage even through his cancer treatments. Herb was a member of Temple Israel, where he was active in fundraising and served in numerous capacities, including being a Board member and President of the Congregation. He was also a member of B'nai Emunah Synagogue. Recently, Herb became involved with The Sherwin Miller Museum of Jewish Art, where he enjoyed being a docent and Board member. He and his wife, co-chaired the 2006 Gala last month. Herb worked tirelessly in the community and was respected and adored by everyone who knew him. Nothing, however, came before his loving and steadfast devotion to his wife and 3 daughters, who, along with his sons-in-law and 4 grandchildren, were his pride and joy and the focus of his life. Not a day will go by when his family won't miss "Baba Herbie's" sense of humor, fun-loving spirit, kindness, generosity and quiet strength. His memory will forever beloved and cherished by his wife, Carol; his children, Fran and Jeffrey Toubin of Dallas, Cindy and Gary Greenberg of Houston, and Stacy (Sam) and Alan Utay of Dallas; his grandchildren, Mollie and Danielle Toubinand Haley and Jake Greenberg; and his sister, Brenda Magoon of Tulsa. The family requests that contributions be sent to Temple Israel, The Sherwin Miller Museum of Jewish Art or Zarrow Manor. Service 2 p.m., Thursday, December 21, 2006, at Temple Israel, with Interment to follow in the New Temple Section of Rose Hill Cemetery. Online tributes, www.fitzgeraldivychapel.com.
