Jean Carmichael Obituary

PHOENIX, Ariz. Jean Williams Carmichael, age 72, of Phoenix, Ariz., formerly of Tuscaloosa, died Sept. 18, 2008, at her home in Phoenix. Services will be 11 a.m. today, Tuesday, September 23, 2008, at Memory Chapel Funeral Home. Visitation will be one hour prior to services. Burial will be in Memory Hill Gardens.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Carmichael, her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Elbert and Willie Evelyn Williams, and two brothers, Jerry Williams and Leonard Williams, Jr.

Survivors are a son, Richard Donald Carmichael, Jr. and his wife, Cheryl, a daughter, Cindy Carmichael Bishop, and a grandson, Michael Bishop and his wife, Grace, from Arizona.

A native of Bessemer, she married her high school sweetheart, Donald Carmichael. Both being pharmacists, they owned and operated a number of drug stores in Alabama, including "Yesterdays" in Tuscaloosa.

She was the pharmacist at DCH Cancer Treatment Center for many years. After retiring there she moved to Phoenix and continued her pharmacy work until retiring earlier this year. She also owned and operated the restaurant, "Lettuce Eat" in Pensacola, Fla. for a period of time.

Pallbearers will be Michael Bishop, Zac Florence, Ed Watkins, John-Mark Fain, Jr., Henry Billips, and Gary Watkins.

Honorary pallbearers are former and present members of DCH Cancer Treatment Center, employees of Maricopa County Arizona clinic, former employees of Yesterday's pharmacy, Hospice of the Valley, Phoenix, Arizona, Billy Kline of Phoenix, Ariz., Barbara Pritchett of Tuscaloosa, Dr. Pamela Hughes and Dr. David Hinton of Tuscaloosa.

Special thanks go to Betty Jo Watkins, her sister of choice and best friend for over 50 years for flying to Arizona and taking care of her financial affairs and for giving her special loving care during her illness.

Special thanks to her daughter, Cindy, and her friend, Tami Millard, for the extraordinary care and love shown to Jean.

She went from our loving arms into the arms of Jesus.
