Brother Damian STEGER

Brother Damian Steger, FSC, 79, died January 6, 2016 at St. Anne Extended Healthcare in Winona, MN. A De La Salle Christian Brothers for 61 years, he was born Thomas Martin Steger in St. Louis, MO, son of John and Mary Elizabeth (née Drumm) Steger. He graduated from Cretin H.S. in St. Paul, MN, and earned a B.A. and an M.A. from Saint Mary's University in Winona. He entered the novitiate of the Christian Brothers in 1954 in Glencoe, MO, and pronounced his first vows in 1955 and his perpetual vows in 1961. Brother Damian started working at St. Mary's Press in Winona in 1958. He lived in several Christian Brothers communities in Winona over the years, and he continued at St. Mary's Press, where he held various positions, including twenty-seven years as President. From 1992 to 2011 he served as a board member of Christian Brothers Investment Services and was the board chair from 1997 to 2003. Brother Damian was a member of the Board of Trustees at Lewis University in Romeoville, IL from 1993 to 2004 and served on the Finance Committee. From 1995 to 2012 he was a member of the Christian Brothers Midwest District Finance Committee. Survivors include his brothers John of White Bear Lake, MN; James of Albuquerque, NM; Joseph of Roseville, IL; nieces and nephews, and the De La Salle Christian Brothers. Visitation will be from 4pm to 6 pm on Tuesday, January 12, St. Thomas More Chapel at Saint Mary's University, Winona Campus, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 6 pm. Interment at St. Mary's Cemetery in Winona.
