G. MONROE Obituary

Age 73, of Inver Grove Heights, MN Passed away unexpectedly on January 5, 2022, holding his daughter's hand. He is survived by daughters Jeni Shaffer (Doug) of Rosemount, MN, and Laura Schaller (Keith) of Waterbury, VT, and six grandchildren (Claudia, Jacob, Brendan, Blake, Greta and Sydney). He is also survived by former spouse Lynn Monroe, sisters Marion O'Connor, Sharon Monroe (Harold), Nancee Freiling (John), brother Norman Monroe (Sharron) along with many close friends and former colleagues. He was preceded in death by his partner of 30+ years, Mary K. Morseth, parents, and five siblings. Bruce taught social studies and psychology at Woodbury High School for 33 years, where he was a popular teacher. He also supervised student teachers at his alma mater, the University of Wisconsin, River Falls. He had a master's degree in counseling psychology and had his own therapy practice for many years. Affectionately known as G.B., he was hard-working, generous, willing to listen and always made time to help his family and friends. He was famously opinionated and had a knack for telling it like it is. Grandpa 'Roe could always be counted on for his amusing antics, baking chocolate chip cookies and doling out M&M's. In retirement, he continued his passion for biking, hiking, traveling and reading. He could often be found outdoors tending to his yard, plants and bird feeders. Always a reluctant user of technology, Bruce often called upon the help of others to guide him into the 21st century. Family and close friends will fondly remember accompanying Bruce (and his ever-present black bag) to his all-time favorite restaurant, House of Coates, where he enjoyed a glass of wine and robust conversation. No funeral or memorial service is immediately planned. The family will provide notice when a service is scheduled.

I'm so very saddened to hear of Mr. Monroe's passing. He was a favorite teacher of mine at Woodbury High School. I majored in Psychology immediately upon entrance to college because of his influence. My sincerest condolences to his family, he was one of a kind. God bless!
