Josephine Secakuku Obituary

Josephine "Jopie" Secakuku age 85, of San Pedro, Calif., passed way on Nov. 30, 2010.
Jopie was born Sept. 16, 1925 to Chief Joseph Secakuku and Adaih Harris in Fort Duchesne, Utah.
She attended Boarding School in Whiterocks and Sherman Institute in Riverside, Calif. She graduated at the age of sixteen with honors and was the first woman Student Body President. Her picture still hangs in the museum on campus. She then went on to Nursing School in Los Angeles and graduated as a Registered Nurse, a career she loved and worked at until retirement.
Jopie proudly served her country in the US Air Force obtaining rank of Captain. As a world traveler she visited many countries. She often talked about the wine tasting and whale watching in California, Polar Bears in Alaska, beaches of Hawaii and preserving the Rain Forest.
A favorite memory was the trip to Africa with her close friends. She now takes her final journey to complete the circle of life.
Survived by sister Nola J. Zuniga,Cedar City, and brother William Secakuku, Second Mesa, Ariz., and many nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by parents, sister Lois Mae LaRose and brother, Homey J. Secakuku.
Her final trip was made to the Altamont Cemetery for graveside services on Dec. 9. Military honors were provided by the American Legion. Condolences may be shared at www.hullingermortuary,com
