Walter Goterch Obituary

SALEM -- Walter Goterch, 84, died Nov. 25, 2010, at his home surrounded by family.

He was born in Methuen, Mass., to Joseph and Helen (Gazda) Goterch.

He was educated in Methuen schools. He lived in Salem for 60 years.

He was a paratrooper in the U.S. Army 101st Airborne Division, 506th Screaming Eagles, during World War II.

He retired from Raytheon.

He was a life member of VFW Post 8546, Salem, a member of the Derry-Salem Elks and the Hampton River Boat Club. His greatest love was his family.

He enjoyed gardening delighting in his prized tomatoes. He enjoyed fishing, boating, cooking, taking care of his home and yard and spending time with his dog, Otto.

Family members include his wife of 60 years, Alfrieda (Galitzki) Goterch; a son, Richard Goterch of Fremont; a daughter, Susan Friedrich of Salem; six grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.

SERVICES: Calling hours are 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at Douglas & Johnson Funeral Home, 214 Main St., Salem.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Memorial donations may be sent to Merrimack Valley Hospice, 360 Merrimack St., Bldg. #9, Lawrence, MA 01843.
