Mr. Eugene J. Bushunow, age 77, of Whitesboro, passed away on Thursday, December 18, 2008, at the Faxton-St. Luke's Healthcare Center after a short illness. Born in Riga, Latvia on May 10, 1931, Eugene was the son of the late Iwan and Maria (Budko) Bushunow. After World War II, he came to the United States and settled in Utica. On November 27, 1960, in Philadelphia, he married the former Lucy Onopchenko with whom he shared 48 years. Eugene worked as an engineer for the General Electric Company at the Broad Street and French Road locations Aerospace Department. He was a parishioner of St. John of Kronstadt Church. Eugene is survived by his wife, Lucy; his daughters and sons-in-law, Natalie and Richard Schuler of Schenectady, NY, Elizabeth and Martin Cooley of Vienna, VA, Lena and Alexander Jarostchuk of Acton, MA, and Christina Bushunow of Clifton Park, NY; his ten grandchildren, Maxim, Nikhon, and John Schuler; Alexander, Nina, Adrienne, and Lia Cooley; and Xenia, Maria, and Nicholas Jarostchuk; and his nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and cousins. He was predeceased by his brother, Walter John Bushunow. The family extends appreciation to Dr. William Krause, Dr. Samir Desai, and the nurses and staff of the 5th Floor at the Faxton-St. Luke's Healthcare Center for their compassionate care. Services will be held at St. John of Kronstadt Church, at the convenience of the family.
