James Farber Obituary

James Francis Farber
Piseco
James Francis Farber, 61, died on April 11, 2013, of an apparent heart attack. He was born on August 2, 1951, in Little Falls. "Jim", as he was known to his many friends, is survived by his mother, Lillian Walrath Farber, of New Hartford, and his father, Stewart Farber, of Syracuse, as well as three brothers, David Farber, of Morehouseville, Ervin "Cap" Fuller and his wife, Carlotta, of East Herkimer, and John Oblak and his wife, Janiece, of Bushkill, PA. Additionally, Jim is survived by two nieces and three nephews; his uncle, Edward Walrath; and cousin, Cathy Walrath Blackwell. Jim Farber was a beloved son, brother, uncle and in-law who cherished his family. Jim graduated from St. Francis de Sales Elementary School in 1965 and from Herkimer High School in 1969. He attended Herkimer Community College and graduated from The State University of New York at Brockport. A true son of the Adirondacks, Jim was an entrepreneur at heart. He opened his first store in the Adirondacks in the early 1970's followed by two more stores, each larger than the previous one. Thus began a 28-year adventure where Jim worked as a realtor, a businessman, a school bus contract driver, a civic leader and friend of many in the Adirondacks. For the past five years, he worked for the State of New York Transportation Department. A caring and sensitive individual, often Jim would take a Thanksgiving meal to shut-ins, make calls on those who were ill, or assist with a local fundraiser. He will be greatly missed by his family and all those he befriended during his 61 years. Calling hours will be held at the Autenrith Funeral Home, 7479 Main Street, Newport, on Wednesday, April 17th, from 4-7 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. John's Church in Newport on Thursday, April 18th, at 10:30 a.m., with interment to follow in St. John's Cemetery. The Mass will be concelebrated by Rev. Quy Vo, Pastor of St. John's, and Rev. Sony Pulickal, Pastor of St. James Major Church, Lake Pleasant. In lieu of flowers, please consider memorials to Piseco Volunteer Fire Department or Piseco Volunteer Ambulance. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home. My sincere condolences for your loss. Jim and I shared many jokes together, plus a love for our community. Our chats at the post office after he left the store cured whatever ailed us at the time. Of courses we will all miss him. Virginia Brewer, MD
