George Perry Obituary
George Perry, Jr.
Master Sergeant George Perry, Jr., US Army retired, of Charlotte, passed on May 2, 2010. George, the son of the late George and Belle Smith Perry, was born June 26, 1926, in Ashdown, Arkansas.
Sergeant Perry served in the United States Army from 1944 to 1972 and during WWII he served in the European Theater.
George met his beloved wife Jessie while serving in the Republic of Panama, they married on June 1, 1947. While stationed in Germany, George would load up his family in their VW bus, taking them to see the sights of Europe. Over the years he and his family would also travel the US and visited Panama often.
Sergeant Perry became a very successful Army recruiter and was transferred to Charlotte in 1969. After retiring from the Army, he worked for the state of North Carolina Employment Security Commission in the Veterans Division for 18 years and retired in 1989. He and Jessie became very involved in square and round dancing and traveled the Carolinas attending dance conventions and events. They loved to fish the lakes and ponds around the Carolinas. After retiring from the state of North Carolina, they traveled America with their best friends Joe and Ann Guskie in their motor homes. He was a devoted Grandfather to his nine grandchildren, taking them during summer vacation to explore America and Panama. He attended all their ball games, dance recitals, and school events, videoing each one. He was truly their mentor, confidant, and hero.
George could tell a story like no other. Family and friends would sit for hours listening to him recount his life events of growing up in the Red River bottom area of Arkansas, his military career, and life travels.
