Jerry Wayne Herrmann, 63, passed away unexpectedly at his home in Ventura on July 1, 2010.
Jerry was born in Tulsa, OK on February 9, 1947 to Fred and Ida Mae Herrmann. Jerry attended Ventura High School and at the age of 17, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, and proudly served his country for nine years including two tours in Vietnam. After his honorable discharge in 1973, he became involved with Alcoholics Anonymous and spent the rest of his life helping others with alcohol and substance abuse issues. He worked many years in the mental health field and was an advocate for the homeless.
Jerry was a devoted father, grandfather and friend. He was an avid San Diego Charger's fan and was rarely seen without wearing his Charger's jacket. His other interests included boxing, mining for gold and listening to music. He loved hot weather and would often spend several days out in the desert around Ridgecrest.
He was preceded in death by his father Fred Herrmann, mother and step-father Ida Mae and George Lutz, brother James Herrmann and sister Faye Hernandez.
Jerry is survived by his son and daughter-in-law Jeremy and Lynn Herrmann of Las Vegas; daughter, Laura Herrmann of Oxnard and daughter, Sheri Patison of Ventura; five grandchildren, Jacob, Ayden, Andrew, Jordan and Lauren; sister, Patricia McComas of New Mexico and several nieces and nephews. He is also survived by four very special ladies, Diana, Susan, Kathy and Connie.

Jerry, if you knew him was a wild and crazy guy. He was alot fun to be around. Jerry was a soldier to the end. He was soldier who fought against Alcoholism, Homelessness and the helpless, but his heart was with his fellow Vets who needed help. Your battle is over. the fight goes on. Rest in Peace

Jerry was a kind, sweet, funny character. We worked together at Behavioral Health.
He was very good and compasionate with some of the most difficult homeless and mentally ill people. He helped countless people get housing, stay sober, get food and medical care. He was a hero while serving in the Marines during wartime and also a hero helping people who are often forgotten and overlooked in our society. He will be missed.

I never new Jerry W. Herrmann, yet we are brothers. The bond between military members never pass, even as we go on with life. I honor his service to country and family. Another fallen hero has made his last roll call. May the gates of heaven open its doors and welcome him.
