Bob Cornelius, 72, of Camarillo, CA. died Sunday, November 3, 2013 with his family by his side after briefly enduring an aggressive form of cancer.
Bob was born April 3, 1941 in Detroit, Michigan to Richard and Margaret Cornelius. Bob relocated to California in 1965, seeking warmer weather and the California lifestyle. Bob enjoyed a long teaching career in Camarillo where he taught at Los Altos and Adolfo Camarillo High School for 30 years. He taught P.E., Art Design, and was a successful basketball and golf coach. In 1989, he started and coached the men's volleyball team because he wanted to coach his son who was terrible at golf. He was adored by his students, many of which liked to hang out in "Corny's" classroom where they could buy "Blow Pops" to support his art supply fund.
Bob is an alumnus of Central Michigan University where he played basketball and ran track. He set various records on the athletic field including being the 100/220 yard college sprint champion (senior year). His other athletic accomplishments include: Men's City League Basketball Scoring Leader/ MVP for two years (Dowagiac, Michigan), All Around Sports Champion (Camarillo Superstars), and the 100 yard sprint and long jump record holder for 2 years (Oxnard, CA). Bob was proud of his physical accomplishments but also studied in programs ranging from Psycho Dynamics and Hypnovation.
His background in teaching sessions in Altered States of Consciousness and self-hypnosis included classes through the Oxnard Rec. Department and group seminars. Bob owned Self Hypnosis Institute of Camarillo. Bob used his training and experience as the basis for his book, The Technique: A Novel Delving Into the Mysterious Realm of the Subconscious Mind, which he published in 2012.
Always a sports fan, Bob ran The Prognosticator football pool for 23 years. It was the highlight of football season for many of his family and friends that played for points and a trophy. Bob enthusiastically spent pre-season getting all the games together and making "pick" sheets for each prognosticator. Players will miss calling in their Wednesday night picks and receiving their spreadsheets hand delivered by "Corny."
Bob was preceded in death by his parents Richard and Margaret Cornelius, and close friend and fellow prognosticator George "Boots" Wadley who he hoped to meet in heaven.
Bob is survived by his son Craig Cornelius (Marla), daughter Crystal Davis (Jimmy) and granddaughters Jaiden and Audrey Cornelius.
Bob was a kind and caring man who always had a positive outlook on life. He valued his close friendships and loved his family deeply. His heart was always in the warmest and most caring place. He will be deeply missed.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 23, 2013, at 2 p.m. at Perez Family Funeral Home 1347 Del Norte Ave, Camarillo, CA 93010As per his request, in lieu of flowers Bob's book The Technique may be purchased online at www. Amazon.com, "so people can have a piece of the Corn." The family wishes to express our gratitude for all the support that has been offered at this difficult time. The last "Blow Pop" is on Corny.

I met bob in 1976, my first year at ACHS. The classrooms were very "tight" and he came in 5th period and taught art in my room. As the years rolled by I found him a room behind mine in the new wing of classrooms all his very own. Bob was always very upbeat and the students loved him. My best to the family. P.S. I wonder if he ever got rid of his black Pontiac Firebird? Michael Harris, fellow art teacher at ACHS for 21 years.

Mr. Cornelius was my all-time favorite teacher. I will always remember him as my awesome laid-back art teacher who blasted classic rock, sold Blow-Pops in class and would let you hang out in his Claudia Schiffer covered office if you needed a break. RIP, Mr. Corny! My thoughts and prayers go out to his family and loved ones.

Corny, You were my coach at a time when we really needed you! I don't think you realized what you were getting into (teenage girls!)! Your wisdom, sense of humor and spirit were much appreciated, maybe just a little later in life. To your family I offer my thoughts and prayers to all of you. ACHS Girls Volleyball, Class of '84

As a student of Los Altos and Camarillo HS. Bob, excelled as a individual and a sportsman. As he lead by Example, integrity, honesty and competitive virtues.
As there are many people in our lives, most are forgotten, unless they have a impact on life. Bob had a impact on many people's lives.

have know Bob since my Los Altos days in the early 60's where he was my P.E. Coach and then at Camarillo High School. I was a coach for many years at Cam High and became good friends with him. I invited Bob to my 40th High School reunion in 2009 and he showed up. He was a hit with his former students and really had a great time. He was the best all around athlete that I had seen. He was very outgoing, always smiling and enjoying life. He will be missed by many and my condolences to his family.

Miss hearing you call out "Hey MARZ" and your reminder phone calls to "get in my picks." Miss watching you get the dogs fired up to get their treats, your tunes blasting out from your car as you dropped off score sheets, and little ways you always checked in. Miss finding out what channel the games were on (you always knew), and the newspaper clipping of the comics you found so funny. Glad you're at peace and I hope you're shooting free throws in heaven Corn Man!

To Corny Jr.,
I look back fondly on your Dad, his great and fun loving sense of humor. and I am grateful for being allowed to play in his "Prognosticator Pool" for all those years we were colleagues at ACHS. A more youthful and fun-loving man I have never met. He will be greatly missed by everyone who had the chance to meet him.
This "Sunbird" or "Bird of Prey" sends his condolences to all of Bob's family.
