Robert "Bob" Moodie, born June 11, 1923, in Los Angeles, Calif., and passed away peacefully at his home in Hilo, Hawaii, after a brief illness, on July 20, 2008.
Bob Moodie was a very honorable man in his walk through life and had made several accomplishments that will continue to leave a great mark on our world.
He served with the U.S. Coast Guard during World War II, as a Coast Guard machinist mate II aboard FS256 (Army Freight Supply Ship) attached to the 7th Naval Fleet. It was an interesting and convoluted assignment and very challenging. They were considered Guardsmen on an Army ship, but under the direction of the U. S. Navy; therefore, no one claimed them. His assignments took him from Honolulu to Funa Futi, and on to Manila.
Bob joined the Operating Engineers Local Union No. 12 in February 1947 and remained a loyal member until his passing. He served on the Apprenticeship Board for several years where he was instrumental in building the Southern California Operating Engineers Apprentice Program in January 1971 (presented with a plaque of gratitude) and in January of 1977 was hired as an apprenticeship coordinator for the Operating Engineers Training Trust were he mentored and created the bright future for the apprentices as they graduated to journeyperson status. He was loved and well respected by all those that completed their apprenticeship under his supervision, and still to this day is looked upon as a positive role model to many young men and women. His greatest accomplishments, however were those of a loving husband, father, grandfather, uncle, cousin, and friend. He set an example to his family and friends of the values and principles of a truly honorable man.
In 1988, he met Beverly Curtis and through a budding friendship and love she became his second wife on Feb. 5, 1994. They were very active with the Navy Yacht Club Channel Islands and the Channel Islands Yacht Club, and attended St. Anthony's Church in Oxnard. Together, they made many lasting friendships.
Bob retired from the Operating Engineers in April of 1994 and moved to Hawaii with "Bev" where they continued to enjoy a beautiful life story as they were destined to be together as best friends and life partners. Their dedication to each other is a true testimony of their love and devotion for each other.
Bob was preceded in death by his first wife of 40 years, Beverly Bulah Moodie; and daughter, Patty Kent.
He is survived by his loving wife of 14 years, Beverly Curtis Moodie; son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Nancy; stepson, Charles Travers and wife Stasa,; stepdaughter, Tamara Bobrosky and husband Joel; son-in-law, Bob Kent; 11 grandchildren, Rachel, Matthew, Genessa, Michelle, Rob, Jason, Stephani, Nia, Nathan, Jacob and Michelle; one great-grandson, Ray; sister, Catherine Wilson; brother-in-law, Ray Curtis; and father-in-law, Evert Curtis. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews; and many good friends, including best friends, Gary and Sharon Sanders, and Gary and Wendy Ahu.
He will be truly missed by all those who have known him and worked with him over the years.
A celebration of his life and a reception immediately following will be held at the Vineyard Community Church, 1320 Flynn Road, Camarillo, Calif., at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 9, 2008. In loving memory of Bob, the attire will be Aloha casual.

Bev, So sorry to hear of Bob's death. The obit was beautiful and I know that you had a wonderful life together. I have fond memories of a few cruises when our similar boats (Ray Bouche) were across from each other. Yours was always in perfect condition.

Vanda and I will always have fond memories of our days on I-dock when the Bona Navis was docked next to the Jolly Mon. You were great neighbors, we had great dock parties and we enjoyed your friendship. We often think of you both and we will miss Bob.

I completed the Operating Engineers apprenticeship under Bob's leadership. He was indeed a great mentor and role model. He was about the fairest person I ever met, and he honestly cared about how well his apprentices were performing their jobs. If you had any problems or issues, Bob was right there helping you work through them. He will truly be missed. May God bless Bob and his family in these sad times.
