Birdie Phillips Obituary

Birdie L. Phillips, of Waco, passed away Monday, May 17, 2010.The family will have a private service. Birdie, the youngest of 10 siblings, was born Oct. 16, 1912, in Livingston, Texas, to Sam and Cherry Phillips.Her mother, Cherry Phillips, was born two days before the Emancipation Proclamation in 1863. She came to Christ at the age of 8 under the pasturage of the Rev. R.L. Stevens at Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Lovelady, Texas.She attended elementary school there and graduated high school from Moore High in Waco, attended Hughs Business School in Houston, Merrit Business College in Oakland, Calif. and received her Bachelors Degree from Univ. of California in Berkley. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lester Forman; and her parents. She leaves to cherish her memory one nephew, Cal Delano Phillips of Cleveland, Ohio; two great-grand-nephews, Phillip F. Haynes Jr. of Waco and Cal Phillips Haynes of Dallas; niece, Alice Jean Ballard of Los Angeles, Calif.; two god daughters, Brenda Butler of Centerville, Va. and Pamela Moore of Vacaville, Calif.; two great-great-nephews, Kyle Robert Haynes and Philip F. Haynes III; great-great-nieces, Jasmine Davison and Kierra Haynes; a loving daughter-in-law, Catherine Haynes; and other relatives and friends. Special thanks to Hazel Haynes, Manning and Brumfield families, Delessia, Nina, Freddie and Regina Green, Estel Bradshaw and Callie Watkins. We loved you in life and will cherish you always. Ashley and I have fond memories of our surprise visit when you turned 90. When we finally grow up we want to be just like you. I'm so glad I visited last spring. Look after us from above.
