Charles Beatty

Charles "Charlie" Beatty, 85, of Hewitt, passed away Sunday, Aug. 1, 2010. Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 4, at the OakCrest Funeral Home Chapel with Larry Eoff officiating. Burial will follow at Waco Memorial Park. Charles was born Dec. 9, 1924, in Waco, Texas, to James R. "Son" and Lois DeVaney Beatty. He graduated from Waco High School, where he played for the Waco High Tigers. He served in the Navy from 1943-46 as an Aviation Gunner on the U.S.S. Bennington during WWII. He married Syble June Fudge, April 17, 1948. Charles worked at Owens Illinois Glass Plant for 43 years. He played several sports, and was an avid golfer who won several championships. He was a member of the Hewitt Church of Christ. He was preceded in death by his parents. Charles is survived by his wife, June; sister, Wanda Shilling of Waco; three children, Steve and Linda Beatty of China Spring, Nancy and Steve Mullens of Riesel, and Coke and Mitzi Beatty from Stephenville; ten grandchildren, and two great-grand-children, with another due this Oct.
