My heart goes out to you and my prayers are with you, your Mother, Brother, and extended family during this sad time. I know how much you loved and adored your Dad and with good reason. He was such an honorable man and he had such a positive and lasting influence on so many. May the countless happy memories and good times with your Dad comfort you in the days ahead.

I am so sorry to hear of Bob's death. I knew it was imminent from your discussion with Joan just before the Ranger reunion. I did not know about his death until today, 6/24, so I was not able to come up for his funeral. He was a great friend of dad, more like a brother, and our family is so appreciative of all the things that he did before Red's death and afterwards. He helped so much to make Mother during that difficult period and I know that he did it because of his love and affection for both of them. Our daughter said that Bob was so nice to her when she was at Baylor and it eased our minds a bit knowing that she could call him at any time if she needed help. I know that his death is such a loss for you but also a relief knowing that he will not suffer any more. Our love and prayers are with you and I know that your faith in God will give you strength during the days ahead.

He always had kind words to say to everyone he talked to. He will truly be missed. May GOD wrap his comforting arms around you and your family during this time. You are in my thoughts and prayers!

Bob isn't really gone, he is only serving the Lord in another location. But the best part is that he is no longer in pain. May your heart be filled with wonderful memories of joyful times together as you celebrate a life well-lived.

As a child, I visited all my Mitchell relatives in East Texas, from time to time. I loved to go to all their homes. It was always such a good fun time. One summer, Wanda Beth, the boys, and I went swimming in the creek. That afternoon, we sold watermelons on the side of the road. Good Ol' times! All the Mitchell's were good , kind, and loving. I have not seen Tooter much through the years, but loved him. I am very proud of him being such a good , kind, and honorable man. And very proud of him beig a "Texas Ranger". I know the "Mitchell Clan" had a good "Home Coming" when Tooter arrived in Heaven. I have been praying for the family, and my thoughts and prayers will continue to be with you.

Bob, Robert Kenneth, Captain, Sheriff, are all names associated with my cousin Tooter, but none of them describe what he meant to me and my family. Gentle, caring, heart of gold, brave, strong, Texas Ranger, that’s how I think of him.
He taught me to ride a horse when I was a child and I looked forward to summers spent with his family in New Braunfels. Riding the horses he leased at Landa Park or watching him with Turkey Blue, his prized Appaloosa are among my favorite memories. When I was considering a career in law enforcement he met me in Austin and introduced me around the DPS office.
When our father died, Tooter took my sisters and I under his wing, “you girls are my girls, too” he once told me.
He was my uncle by marriage, my cousin by blood and my surrogate father by choice.
I am so very proud of how he lived his life and that he was a part of mine.
Tooter’s death leaves a hole as big as Texas in the hearts of many. I will miss him and as we gather to mourn his loss, I find peace in knowing that there’s a Mitchell reunion bigger than Griffin going on in Heaven right now.

The world is poorer with the passing of Bob but is so blessed that he was with us. He was truly a man big in stature, in heart, in character, and in service to others. I am one of the Skillern cousins who grieve with you, Jerry and all the family. My brother and I always loved visiting Aunt Ruth and Uncle Erb's because we always felt welcomed and loved by everyone. That same warmth and caring never failed to be present whenever Tooter, Jerry and I talked and visited. I will always remember his calls to Houston and prayers during Bob Robert's heart transplants and hospital time. May God give you strength and comfort in the time ahead as I'm sure He has during this long hard time.

I have loved Uncle Tooter and Jerry from the first time I met them. Fifteen years ago, I married thier nephew, Steve Mitchell. Uncle Tooter was always a highlight in our lives. Such a well respected man with a warm smile, kind heart and a great sense of humor. I always thought you hung the moon in Waco. You will be missed but never forgotten. What great stories have come from your life. "If Tears Could Build A Stairway, And Memories a Lane, I'd Walk Right Up To Heaven And Bring You Home Again."
This saying is in our living room next to a picture of Jimmy Ray, Uncle Tooter's brother, Steve & Kenneth's Dad. I read it often. Uncle Tooter, if you are reading this, please tell Jimmy Ray that Steve is a wonderful husband and father, and so proud to be a Mitchell.God Bless you all Jerry, Carol, Bobby and family. We love you!

Tooter has a spcial place in the hearts of all my family members. I remember stories through the years that made him seem bigger than life and then when we visited he was always the warm, gentle, respected cousin who made you feel like you just visited yesterday and the passing time went away. I can only imagine the pain in your hearts today and wish for you a peace only God can give. We love all of you.

As little kids, I would spend the night at Uncle Erb's and Aunt Ruth's house. After everyone did their assigned duties around the house, we all played all day long. Through the years I have not seen Tooter very often, but I always loved him and highly respected him as a Texas Ranger. I would like Jerry and family to know that I am praying for them at this time.

As a boy, Bob Mitchell was Tooter to me, and I only learned a few years ago how he hated that name. He was more than my sister's husband and my husband's nephew. He was a second father to my five girls the past forty-one years. I've relied on him for advice many times. I'm not mourning his death. I'm celebrating. I can see him having a joyful reunion with his Uncle John and probably playing poker.

How our earthly hearts break as we miss this very special Uncle. Yet we rejoice with him at his home coming! What a celebration there must have been in Heaven yesterday! I know the smile on his face is why the sun was shining so bright as he was reunited with loved ones gone before. "Uncle Tooter" meant more to our lives than could ever be expressed. He was the safe, soft, understanding, father figure, etc. etc. to Kenneth, and took me, Betsy, in from day one and loved me like one of his own. We love you Uncle Tooter! We love you all, Jerry, Carol, Bobby and John. We pray God's never ending peace, comfort and blessings for you during this time. Love, Kenneth, Betsy, Seth & Kelsey Mitchell

I loved and respected "Uncle Tooter" not only as a phenomenal lawman, but as a model person that all men should strive to be like. I think his brother, my dad Jimmy Ray, would have been much like him had he lived longer and that makes me very PROUD. He will be missed and never forgotten.

Throughout my life I remember "Tooter" as a "bigger than life" man. My dad, Jim Mitchell, loved and respected him and he passed that along to me and my sister as we grew up. As a little girl I looked up to Bob as my favorite cousin, who brought me a beautiful embroidered jacket when he returned from Korea in the 50s. As an adult, I've respected and loved him for the support and strength he has provided to all his immediate and extended family members. He was tough when it was necessary, but so gentle and patient with his family and children. He never thought of himself as special, but he was to our family. I'll miss him, but I will enjoy so many great memories. May his family feel the warmth and love of a community of friends and gain strength in knowing that Bob will always be with us.
