ALICE COX Obituary


ALICE DAWSON COX (Age 92)  
Born in Norfolk, VA, the daughter of Ralph and Louisa Cosby (Green) Dawson, passed peacefully at The Gardens at Fair Oaks with family by her side on March 25, 2015. Both a scholar and an athlete, she attended school in Norfolk and New Orleans, LA before completing her education at the University of Maryland in 1944. In 1942, Alice married the boy next door, Harold Nelson Cox. After his service in the U.S. Navy during WWII, Alice and Harold moved to Falls Church, VA to start their family. Both were active members in community activities including the Democratic Committee of Falls Church and the Food Pantry at St. George's Episcopal Church in Arlington, VA. Whether it was walks through the local park with their children and grandchildren or a long weekend at their beach home in Ocean City, MD, Alice and Harold enjoyed life to its fullest until they parted in 1993 after of 50 years of marriage. She was also predeceased by her children, Terry Cox Graham and Ralph Dawson Cox. Alice is survived by her four grandchildren, Matthew E. Smoot, wife Courtney, William Dawson Cox, Emily Ann Katsoris, husband Matthew and Russell McGrail Cox; and great- grandson, Cole Matthew Katsoris. A Memorial Service will be held on April 7 at 7:30 p.m. at St. Georges Episcopal Church, 915 N Oakland St., Arlington, VA 22203. Interment will follow on the morning of April 8 at Oakwood Cemetery, 401 Roosevelt Blvd., Falls Church, VA 22044. Memorial donations may be made to The Gardens at Fair Oaks, "Clifton Unit Activities." 4310 Forest Hill Drive, Fairfax, VA 22030. 703-278-1001.

I met Alice & Harold when I worked at St. George's Church in the 1990's. They were wonderful people and friends. I am sure she is happy to be reunited with her family in heaven. She was wonderful to me when I needed "special" TLC!! I'm sure her family will miss her dearly.
