BARBARA WOLFSON Obituary

BARBARA DELMAN WOLFSON
Died August 23, 2016, at her Washington DC home after a long battle with polycystic kidney disease. The New York native lived in Washington for more than four decades, immersing herself in the city''s culture, politics and history.  Barbara had a brilliant mind and a passion for knowledge. She graduated from the Bronx School of Science and Vassar College and earned a Ph.D. in history from Columbia University, studying with the renowned medievalist Norman Cantor. She taught at American University, but for most of her career she shaped others'' ideas as an editor. Projects included the National Endowment for Humanities and DC Heritage Tourism Coalition; she was senior editor of "Hard Lessons," the report of the Special Inspector General for Iraq Reconstruction. Her true loves were reading, classical music, and the joys of food. She fought for DC home rule in the 1970s and remained active in local politics. But she was most devoted to raising her children-a writer and an opera singer. She is survived by daughters Hannah of Birmingham, AL (husband Randall Law, children Alex and Vera), and Sarah of New York, NY (husband Jeffrey Milarsky, daughter Olivia). Memorial arrangements have not yet been made. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in her name to the Levine School of Music.
