Charlotte Fitch Obituary

CHARLOTTE WARNER FITCH
Charlotte Warner Fitch died on February 19, 2011, her 101st birthday, in Arlington VA. She was a longtime resident of McLean VA. Mrs. Fitch was born in Philadelphia PA, the daughter of Philip and Clara Warner. She attended the University of Pennsylvania, and subsequently moved to Washington as a "government girl," working as a statistician for the Department of Labor. For many years she also worked as an administrative assistant to a number of Fairfax County physicians, and was particularly proud of her association with Dr. Everett Caldemeyer who conducted one of the first national field tests of the Salk polio vaccine.  She was married to Edwin "Ted" Fitch for 51 years, with whom she had two children, Mary Fitch Harahan of Bethany Beach DE and Kathryn Medbery Fitch of Madrid, Spain. In addition to her two daughters, she is survived by two grandsons, Teddy Fitch Harahan of Greensboro NC and David Gonzalez Fitch of Madrid, and six great grandchildren. Her grandson Christopher Harahan predeceased her. Mrs. Fitch was an inveterate reader, an active participant in the League of Women Voters, the McLean Citizens Association, the Franklin Sherman and McLean High School PTAs, and the Girl Scouts. She loved democratic politics and aggressively campaigned for a number of democratic candidates for state and national offices. After her husband's retirement, they traveled together in Europe for several years.  Mrs. Fitch will be buried in a private ceremony at Ivy Hill Cemetery in Philadelphia.
