Doane Frederick Kiechel, Jr.   
A long-time resident of Bethesda, Maryland, died on December 16, 2018, four days short of his 91st birthday. Doane was born on December 20, 1927 in Superior, Nebraska. He moved to the Washington, DC area when his father, Colonel Doane Fred Kiechel, was reactivated at the beginning of World War II. Doane Jr. enlisted in the U.S. Army on his 17th birthday during the final stages of the war. After the war, he attended the U.S. Naval Academy, graduating in 1952. That year he also married Lois Blick, who would remain his cherished wife for 63 years until her death in 2015. As an officer in the Navy, he saw action in the Korean War aboard a destroyer.After his Navy service, Doane became a production manager at Bethlehem Steel's shipyard in Quincy, Massachusetts, where he lived and worked until Bethlehem closed the facility in 1963. He then accepted a position as a management consultant with Booz Allen Hamilton in Bethesda, Maryland. His first project with Booz Allen was a contract with the Navy to help plan a new shipbuilding program for its next generation destroyer, the Sea Hawk. His practice continued to grow and included client assignments in Europe and South America. He became a Senior Vice President of Booz Allen and was elected to the Board and served on the Operating Council of senior partners. He gave generously of his time and was proud to have mentored many partners and employees.Within a year after his retirement from Booz Allen, Doane joined Woodward-Clyde Group, a national engineering company. While there he oversaw the development of a new government contracts business. Upon his final retirement in 1997, Doane and Lois enjoyed golf, winters in Florida and other travel and time with family. Doane's life was marked by hard work, integrity, duty and modesty. He treasured his friends and enjoyed hearing about their lives and activities. He had equal regard for everyone and treated all he encountered with the same respect and interest.He is survived by his twin sister Donna Edmondson; daughter Mimi (Mary Rose); son Doane III; daughter-in-law Brenda; and grandson Doane IV. Doane and Lois' ashes will be interred at the Naval Academy.
