Dolores Copeland-Adams Obituary

COPELAND-ADAMS Celebration & Reflection on the Life of DOLORES COPELAND-ADAMS On Wednesday, August 4, 2010, God called our mother, daughter, grandmother and friend Dolores home for her eternal rest. Dolores Copeland-Adams, born July 31, 1940, in Florence, South Carolina, daughter of Louise Felder and the late Alfred Deas. She was raised by her maternal grandmother, the late Martha Johnson-Copeland "Sugarpie". Married to the late, John Adams, Sr. in 1957, she is the mother of three sons and a daughter. She was called "Ma" by her children and many who sought her for motherly advice. She was a spiritual woman of great wisdom who loved the Lord. Having received Christ, at an early age and as an adult she attended Convent Avenue Baptist church, in Harlem, New York where she served on the "Sick and Shut In, Homeless Mission Board, and Sunday School Ministries". Dolores "Ma" received her education from the New York City public schools and later in life obtained a degree in Theology, from the Hugee Theological Institute. She worked for the New York Telephone Company in Manhattan, New York for many years, retired and moved to Woodbridge, Virginia to work for Prince William County Offices where she also retired in 2006. After retirement, she joined Ebenezer Baptist Church, under the Pastoral leadership of Rev Charles A. Lindy. She was an active member serving on Senior Citizen Ministry, spreading her wonderful smile and wisdom with all who came in contact with her. She leaves to cherish her loving memory three sons, Anthony L. Copeland (Vanessa), John Adams, Jr. (Lana), Kevin Adams (Gail); one daughter, Michele Clarke (Owen); three brothers, Roosevelt Copeland, and the late William Walters and Gilbert Copeland; eight grandchildren, Latisha, Kevin, Jr., Kenyatta, Dana, Joshua, Johnna, Raheem, and Kendal; three great grandchildren, Khalil, Kendrick, and Tanesha and a host of relatives and friends. A memorial service will be conducted 11 a.m. Monday, August 9, 2010 at Ebenezer Baptist Church. Interment will be at a later date in New York. Mountcastle Turch Life Celebration Home, 4143 Dale Boulevard, Dale City, VA is in charge of arrangements.
