DEHGAN EBRAHIM DEHGAN, MD 1920 ~ 2017 On Friday, August 4, 2017, Dr. Ebrahim Dehgan, beloved father, brother, uncle, friend, TB researcher, medical school professor, physician, passed away in Mount Vernon, VA at the age of 97. He was buried at National Memorial Park, in Fairfax, VA on Tuesday, August 8, 2017. Dr Dehgan was born in Bandar Pahlavi (Anzali), Iran on March 28, 1920 son of Oroodj Ali and Gulsaba Teleschi. After enrolling in medical school in University of Tehran, he excelled in his studies and received a full scholarship at University of Istanbul, where he would graduate as the top student in his class, despite being in a foreign country. He was a voracious devourer of current research, waking up at 4:30 am and studying late into the night for his 70 years career. After receiving his M.D. from the University of Istanbul, he joined University of Paris medical faculty as a fellow. Dr. Dehgan would specialize in addressing in pulmonary diseases, particularly TB, and receive board certifications in chest medicine & radiology, publish a textbook and papers on TB, research for which he would receive international recognition. Ultimately, he would contract TB from one of his patients, ending his research career. When he returned to Iran from France, he was the first physician in the country to start a bronchoscopy diagnostic service. He was known for treating the poor free of charge in his private practice. In the 1960s, he did fellowships at Tufts University, before returning to serve as a tenured Professor at the University of Tehran Medical School. During his time at the University of Tehran, he would treat Mossadegh, the former Prime Minister of Iran, and would be asked to serve as Minister of Health. After the birth of his son, Dr. Alex Dehgan, by his second wife, Dr. Nahid Nikfar Dehgan, he moved to the US. During his tenure in the US, he would work in Texas, at Chicago's Cook County Hospital, and in Washington State, including 40 years of service with the VA. He continued working until he was 90, before retiring to Florida where he loved to wake before dawn to walk on the beach with his family and friends. Dr. Dehgan loved nature, and spent much time in national parks and mountain hiking. Ebrahim's siblings, included, Admiral Farajollah Rasai, Commander and founder of the Imperial Iranian Navy, Mogheem Rasai, Educator, Dr. Bob Telischi, mechanical engineer who worked with NASA, Dr. Massumeh Telischi, Head of the Blood Bank at Cook County Hospital, Mansoureh Telischi. He is survived by his sister Touran Telischi Taba, of Geneva, Switzerland, and his brother, Dr. Masoud Teleschi, a Civil Engineer, of Tehran, Iran, his son Dr. Alex Dehgan from his second marriage with Dr. Nahid Dehgan, his son Dr. Denis Pascal Degan and his daughter Dr. Diane Isabelle De Boisgrollier from his first marriage to Andrée Alexandrine Devillebichot (born Richard), as well as numerous grandchildren, nieces and nephews, who adored him.Ebrahim's siblings, included, Admiral Farajollah Rasai, Commander and founder of the Imperial Iranian Navy, Mogheem Rasai, Educator, Dr. Bob Telischi, mechanical engineer who worked with NASA, Dr. Massumeh Telischi, Head of the Blood Bank at Cook County Hospital, Mansoureh Telischi.
