Eric Bonifant Larsen

Eric "Ric" Larsen, born and raised in Bethesda, MD, died on October 8, 2022, from complications of heart disease. Eric was the son of Edward B. Larsen of Chicago, IL, and Mary Eugenia Bonifant of Powhatan, VA. He was predeceased by his sister, Marjorie (Hershey) of Austin, TX. He leaves behind his wife, Ellen (Lefebure) of 45 years; sons Christian, Eric (Meaghan) and Andrew (Rita Marie); and grandchildren Sydney and Hailey Brown, Hadley, Emmett, Aileen, Justus and Urban Larsen; and nephew, Jeffrey Hershey. He was a graduate of Walter Johnson High School ('61) and Virginia Polytechnic Institute. At VPI, he was a member of Company E Class of 1965, which won the cord that year for being rated the best unit. Eric served for two years in the Army Corps of Engineers as First Lieutenant and Company Commander in Korea. When he returned home he spent a good deal of time with high school friends Ozz, Walter, Ron, Pete, Dave and Harry. Eric worked for 30 years in the Housing Department of Montgomery County where he met Ellen. They traveled extensively together in Europe and Central America and backpacked into many National Parks and Wilderness Areas. He was especially happy to be laughing with his brothers-in-law John, Charlie, Paul, Richard and Regis Lefebure sitting around a campfire, drinking bourbon and listening to childhood stories. Unfortunately, none of these stories were recorded, a real travesty. Services will be at St. Jane de Chantal Church, Bethesda, MD, on Friday, October 14, at 11 a.m., preceded by visitation at 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers, please send donations in his name to the C&O Canal Association.
