I remember Mr. Hall at SJHS back in 1974..he was my biology teacher & my tennis coach...he was very patient with me & helped me 'break' my backhand slump by spending hours just hitting balls to me at Ben Lomond Park...I will always remember his kindness & my condolences go out to his family.

To the Hall family, my early memories of teaching at SJHS included your father's cheerful and constant encouragement to enjoy every day and to make a difference in the lives of our students. He will be greatly missed.

To all the Halls
I worked with Harold (The Doctor to us in the science department at SJHS) for many years. Although we were often at different schools, I could always count on "The Doctor" to be at the chemistry meetings and anything else that required attention of those who were interested in and passionate about teaching the kids.
Harold's passing leaves a huge hole in the science program in Prince William County Public Schools. Those of us who taught with him and knew him feel a great personal loss at his passing which was all too soon.

Harold, even though we only worked in the same department for three years, I always considered the Hylton Science Dept a family while I was there. We occasionlly bumped into each other since I left there seven years ago and when we didn't the rest of the family kept me updated on everyone.

Part of my family is now gone, others are still with us...your memory will always be with us all.

Amanda...we met camping up in the Blue Ridge with the Sci Dept...he was so proud of you

Firstly, my deepest condolences to the family.

Mr. Hall, no one who had you as a teacher would ever forget you. I remember when someone in my class asked if anyone had ever told you you reminded them of Mr. Feeny from "Boy Meets World," and surprisingly, you said no.
Your sense of humor was subtle sometimes, and other times not so subtle. Your jokes were even funnier when they weren't so subtle, and people would still not get it.

Unfortunately, I can't honestly say you made chemistry easier for me, or I got really interested through your class. My memories are not from the actual curriculum, but from all the fun times we had in class. Thank you for an enjoyable 5th period in 10 grade. I looked forward to your class, and ended the year with a multitude of funny stories from that class.
You will be missed. Rest in peace, and God bless your family in this difficult time.

Dear Amanda and family,
My world will not have the same amount of joy, happiness, generosity and love in it now that your dear Dad has passed away. He was a dear friend who steadfastly offered his support and time and caring to me for 20 years.
He was a model teacher who taught us all how to teach and hold to our high standards. He got the best from his students and his rigorous teaching challenged them to always be better.
He was a great co-worker, always teasing us with that impish wit to get us through the day.
He was a wonderful friend who did not know how to say:"I'm a bit too busy to help right now." His energy was unmatched and his generosity without compare.
But Amanda, most of all, he was your devoted father and best friend. His pride in your accomplishments and his joy in your happiness would fill an ocean. Always take comfort in knowing your father loved you, Rob and that sweet new son of yours more than words can say.
I loved your dad,Amanda, and will forever miss him.

Harold, you will be sorely missed. You were a giant not only to those you were infinitely lucky to have known you but to the thousands of lives you have touched through your creative teaching, tireless enthusiasm, and countless dedication to the students of PWCS. There is no man with whom I've respected more in my career and with whom I aspire to be more like. I am truly blessed and lucky to have called you "friend".

To Amanda, Rob, and Baby Zephyr, thank you so much for sharing Mr. Hall with us. He was truly a treasure. Amanda, God broke the mold we he made your father. Truly a "one of a kind".

Mr. Hall, even through all we went through, I am going to miss you messing with me in class and in the hallways. I see now your jokes and manner was only to get me through the class, and it did and I thank you for that. I think you would be happy to know that I will be taking your mole roadmap with me to college when I take chemistry next year. :) You really will be missed.

P.S. I never got to really apologize for almost burning your cabinet that day we tested the Bunsen burners. I know you knew that I meant well. I told you I wasnt good with fire! :P

Harold, you made it bearable my friend. Sixteen years of life’s ups and downs from solving the world’s problems at lunch in your room everyday to cheering Hylton on the sidelines during their state championships.
Together we watched Amanda and Jon grow up from little puppies to adults and together we were proud of their accomplishments.
The advice you have given me through the years is immeasurable and your friendship priceless.
After 43 years of classroom instruction including summer school, you are the true “Iron Man”. I know of no other person who was so unselfish, so considerate, and so kind. But it was your sense of humor that made the days fly by so quickly. And now you are gone.

It was so difficult to imagine Hylton without you this fall. It is impossible to comprehend the world with you departed.

My deepest heartfelt sympathy to you Amanda, Rob and little Zephyr, your grandfather was the best.

Harold there are so many fond memories, your famous chicken pot pie, and home made bread that we would beg you to make for the holiday get togethers. Your passing has deeply saddned the Durham family. Amanda you are in our prayers and know our thoughts are with you at this difficult time.

Mr. Hall - You were a great teacher with a great sense of humor and an ability to reach us knuckle heads when we were at our worst. I remember all the jokes you would say in class, and I can't do anything with Chemistry without thinking of you. For a subject I hated, you were a teacher that stands out the most. God bless you and the family - Kenny Harkins, CD Hylton '05

Mr. Hall, you were an awesome teacher. Although the class challenged me, you never hesitated to help in whatever way you could. You were there early and always stayed late to make sure I was able to understand the material.
You had a quick, witty response to any and every comment. That definately kept me on my toes when you could come back at us with something 10x as funny in a split second. Never will I forget about that mole chart, those old fashioned movies you'd have on before the bell rang, or how to properly heat up a chemical without reaking havoc upon the science department. Most of all, I will never forget you.

To Mr. Hall's family- I am sincerely sorry for your loss. He was a great teacher that always went out of his way to help others. He will truely be missed.

Harold, I half expect this to be one of your famous jokes and you just got me, again. Sadly, this time you are serious. You will be missed not just as a fellow teacher but as the person it was a real treat to know. Your unique sense of humor kept us all on our toes and left some others embarrassed (you know who you are!) For as much as you did for all of us, it is impossible that we could have ever repaid your kindnesses in like. You were generous and caring, loved dearly by so many, and your wily little smile will be forever imprinted in our memories.

Amanda, he spoke of you with such love and respect. You were his best friend and put the twinkle in his eye. I have never seen such a love between father and daughter as yours. You are fortunate.

If I needed equipment, I'd go to Harold. If I needed an answer, I'd go to Harold. If I needed a good laugh, I'd go to Harold. If I needed to hear uplifting, positive things I would ask Harold about his beloved family. Your father lived for family values, honor, integrity, and kindness. We will miss him greatly, but his overwhelming compassion for others will forever be in our hearts and memories. I thank God that Harold touched so many lives during his precious time on this Earth.

My thoughts and prayers are with each of you during this difficult time.

Harold, we miss you so much. You were a mentor to us all. We are going to miss your great sense of humor, eating eating Red, Hot and Blue in your room, watching old movies, using our Halltrons, hearing about your great trips to see Amanda and Rob in Alaska. You touched so many lives.

Amanda, Rob and family, I am so sorry for your loss. I know you will miss your Dad so much.

With deepest sympathies,

Mr.Hall, Chemistry was such a scary subject for me in high school before I took your class! You were truly a great teacher who knew how to simplify the most complicated of reactions and you always made that class a fun experience with all of your crazy demonstrations. I'll always remember having to get up early a couple of times a week to hand in my homework early for extra credit and how there never was a dull day in your class. I send my condolences to your friends and family as you will be missed very much by all of your former students.

Uncle Harold will be greatly missed. He had one of the best laughs. We all loved him dearly and we always will. I find comfort in knowing that he's with the Lord now and he is no longer in any kind of pain. But, we will truly miss him. Amanda, I know this has to be so difficult on you especially...but just remember we are all here for you and we are all here for each other.

Mr. Hall,
You taught me so much about chemistry and how it's CHEM-IS-TRY. I can't believe that I'm writing this on here, I'm so sorry, and shocked, and although you aren't here to hear this, I wish you were. Thank you for an unforgettable year in chemistry, you will be missed.
