Margaret F. Conrad

Margaret F. Conrad died early on March 30 in Alexandria, VA. She was 95. She was a person of abiding but open-minded faith. Raised in the Philadelphia, PA area, she lived for four decades in Pittsburgh, working most recently at CMU's Engineering and Science Library. After retiring to Stone Harbor, NJ in 1997, she worked for many years at the Wetlands Institute and became a devoted birder. She rarely "exercised" but could stride powerfully down the beach into her 80s. She loved jazz and would regularly stay at clubs until closing. She is survived by her son James of Alexandria, VA, his wife Kathy and their daughters Elizabeth and Caroline, and her son David, who lives in London and Pittsburgh. She was predeceased by her beloved son Philip. His widow Sally lives in Bremerton, WA with grandson Bennett and granddaughter Olivia. Her husband of 56+ years, James Watson Conrad, died in 2011. A memorial service with reception to follow will be held at Calvary Church Shadyside in Pittsburgh on Saturday May 6 at 3 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the South Jersey Jazz Society (www.southjerseyjazz.org).
