MARIA SNOW Obituary

MARIA SNOW
Early on Wednesday October 13, Maria Snow (11/21/1924 - 10/13/2016) was taken home by the Lord, following a year long struggle with pain and dementia. She is survived by her sons, Alexis and Peter (Kathleen); five grandchildren and four great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Robert and daughter, Desiree. Born in Russia, she survived the 1942 German invasion of her beloved Crimea, and spent years in a German labor camp, as well as a displaced persons camp following the end of World War II. Arriving in the U.S. in 1949, Maria worked at the Library of Congress, before marrying Robert K. Snow in 1954 (deceased 1978). Maria spoke four languages and worked as a translator for the American Chemical Society. Maria was an honors graduate (Alpha Chi) from George Mason University, receiving a degree in history in 1980. In addition to her career, she was a mother and homemaker, who loved all arts, especially ballet, classical music, and literature. She had been a member of Centreville United Methodist Church, where Maria assisted with their ministry to Russian orphans. A Memorial Service will be held at Centreville United Methodist Church, Saturday October 22 at 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Capital Caring (Hospice) in her name. http://www.capitalcaring.org/

Maria' life was a beautiful witness of love to family, service to others and devotion to the Lord in all circumstances. She was a blessing to many and will be deeply missed. I'm glad I had the honor of knowing her.
