MARIE F. BARTLETT

MARIE FRIEDA ALLENDER BARTLETT (Age 93)  
Marie was born on October 9, 1920 on Todds Rd., in Lexington, Kentucky and resided in Annandale, VA from August 1965 until her death of natural causes at Sunrise Senior Living in Fairfax, VA on Saturday, August 23, 2014. Beloved wife of 56 years to the late Lt. Col. Paul Vernon Bartlett. Devoted mother of two sons, Gary Allen Bartlett (Elin Johnson Bartlett) of Jacksonville, FL and George Everett Bartlett (Lois Myhre Bartlett) of Centreville, VA. She is preceded in death by her parents George J. (born 1888) and Sarah Magee Allender (born 1894), her brother George M. Allender, sister Gertrude Allender Jakway and one grandchild. Her past work experience and training ranged from being a long distance telephone operator for General Telephone Company and Ohio Bell Telephone to a bookkeeper for an accounting firm in Chicago, IL. She was also a merchandiser for Lord & Taylor Department Store in the Northern Virginia area. Marie was a dedicated United States Air Force wife for 25 years and lived in the Midwest, Southeast and Southwest of the United States and Germany. Throughout high school and her adult life, Marie was socially acute. In high school she was on the Student Council for four years and the Secretary of her Senior High Class. Later in life, she was the Treasurer of the Officer's Wives Club, Officer's Wives Garden Club & Thrift Store, Homeowners Association and American Heart Association. Marie was also a practicing Presbyterian. Friends may call at Fairfax Memorial Funeral Home 9902 Braddock Rd., Fairfax, VA on Thursday, August 28 from 6 to 8 p.m. and where funeral services will be held on Friday, August 29 at 1 p.m. She will be layed to rest with her husband at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.www.fmfh.com
