Minnie Russell Obituary

RUSSELL

MINNIE PEARL MICU RUSSELL (1975 - 2022)

Minnie Pearl Micu Russell passed away unexpectedly on November 6, 2022, as the result of a stroke. She will be cherished in memory by her husband Mark, their twin children Lucia and Quinn, her mother Minerva Micu and siblings Dinah Rodillas and Bryan Micu, as well as a large community of extended family, friends, and colleagues. The youngest of three children born to Perlito and Minerva Micu, Minnie grew up in Jacksonville, Florida, graduated high school from Stanton College Preparatory School, receiving her B.A. from Florida State University, and an M.A. in Art History and Archeology from the University of Maryland.

Minnie was a loving wife and mother who enjoyed outdoor adventures, knitting, baking, reading, traveling, and cuddles with her children. She was also a museum professional who spent 17 years working at the Smithsonian Institution Traveling Exhibition Service, and recently began a new job as project manager at the U.S. Botanic Garden. Minnie touched so many with her kindness, empathy, and friendship, and in death saved lives by being an organ donor.

There will be a celebration of life at 12 p.m. on Saturday, November 19, at Everly-Wheatley Funeral Home in Alexandria, VA, and a service at Mary, Queen of Heaven Catholic Church in Jacksonville, FL on December 17, 2022.

Auntie Minnie,
You never failed to give me a smile, words of encouragement, or a hug. I'll be sure Quinny and Lulu will always get the same from Cousin Libby. Hope you're gardening with Papa. I love you.

My daughter has been a friend and colleague of Minnie's and speaks highly of her. Her untimely death is heartbreaking but she lived her life well and she will live in the hearts and minds of all who knew and loved. Thinking of her family and friends with love. I wish i had known Minnie.

Minnie,
I am so, so lucky to have known you. Though we hadn't seen each other in a couple years, you're smile, voice, and subtle laugh are still etched in my mind. You will be missed, dear friend.

Minnie,
My dorm mate at FSU. So hard to believe that you are gone. I just saw you this past summer at your Dad's services. My heart is broken. You were a very special friend. You were a roommate, friend, bridesmaid and sister to me. I will always cherish the many memories shared. Like the fact you got me to listen to Carol King and James Taylor. The time we didn't evacuate our dorm room during a fire drill because it was too cold outside. We hid under the covers with our lights turned off. The laughs we shared throughout the years. And even when you moved to Maryland, all the times we would see each other even if a short visit. All the countless letters and cards I would send to keep in touch. I was thrilled you were having the twins and excited to finally meet them. You ARE an amazing Mother, Friend and Sister! I am sure your father has welcomed you to the gates of heaven. And even though it was too soon, he embraced you. May you be at peace and comfort in the heavenly kingdom of our Lord. My best friend always...
