PAUL ERNEST EHLE On Sunday, June 24, 2012, Paul Ernest Ehle passed away in Alexandria, Virginia, after a struggle with Whipple's disease. He was born January 27, 1942 in Annapolis, MD. He earned BS, MS, and PhD degrees in mechanical engineering from studies at Johns Hopkins University, the University of Pennsylvania, and the University of Iowa. Paul served as a captain in the US Army in Vietnam. His 35-year career as an engineer for the Department of the Army included civilian positions at Rock Island Arsenal, Picatinny Arsenal, the Pentagon, Army Materiel Command - Eisenhower Avenue, and Fort Belvoir. He retired in 2004, having earned numerous awards for Meritorious Civilian Service, distinction as an Army Materiel Command Employee of the Year, and accolades for military writing from the Army War College. Paul enjoyed many hobbies throughout his life. He was captain of the rifle team at Johns Hopkins University and won many competitions. He often combined his enjoyment of photography with his interest in national parks, flower shows, and international travel. He was also a woodworker, tinkerer, and master of home improvement projects. He is survived by his wife, Joan, children Marcia Osborne (Chris), of New York City, and Brian Ehle (Oksana), of Great Falls, VA, and grandchildren Carolyn, Cliff, Max, and Zoe. He will be greatly missed. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, July 1, at 2 p.m. at Messiah Lutheran Church, 6510 Fort Hunt Road, Alexandria, Virginia.
