Stanley was instrumental in working for us to set a precedence in 2005 whereby accounting firms were liable to investors who relied on their audited reports in order to make an investment decision. Stanley worked tireless with us in the belief that a wrong should be righted. I thank him for his guidance and friendship and sadden to hear that he is no longer with us and a driving force in our legal system. I will miss his friendship and keen advice. Good bye to a giant and friend.

Stan and Irv Pollack were my bosses at the Division of Enforcement for about 12 years. Irv knew right away that Stan was unique and brilliant and it was no secret that he was the one to succeed Irv as Director of Enforcement. Because of the leadership and intellectual ability of these two men, I decided to remain at the SEC and rejected all offers to go into the private practice of law. When I was employed by Stan in 1969 after serving in the United States Air Force,, I was assigned to Bob Laprade, who over the years was Stan's "go to guy" for the tough cases, and later became Stan's clerk when he became a judge. Bob and I worked cases together and we became very friendly over the years. Stan placed great faith in Bob and me to "do the right thing" when he assigned us to investigate and litigate these cases in Federal Court or work with the U.S, Attorney's Office in New York for possible criminal prosecution, and I believe we never disappointed him. I remember him giving me his private phone number and telling me to call him anytime day or night if I had a problem with a case where I needed his opinion on what to do. When I heard of his passing, I immediately reflected on my association with Stan as it was an honor to work with a man who was loyal to his friends, and associates and possessed outstanding leadership and intellectual capability mixed in with a sense of morality that escape most people. He was indeed a compassionate and brilliant leader without peer or rival . Sincerely, Lester Green, one of the retired surviving SEC Enforcement attorneys when Stan was Director of the Division.
