THOMAS HALL Obituary

HALL THOMAS K. HALL On Monday, May 3, 2021, Thomas K. Hall, loving husband, and father of three, passed away at the age of 82. His father, Thomas K Hall, Sr. and mother, Lillian M. McGrath, and his son Michael preceded him in death. Tom married Geraldine M. Hicks in 1965. They were married for 55 years and raised three children; Ann Marie Boyd, Michael Hall and Karen Hall. His wife, daughters Ann Marie and Karen, and seven grandchildren, survive Tom. Tom was born August 23, 1938 in Staten Island, NY. He grew up in Staten Island, NY and later moved to Arlington, VA, for his high school years. He attended St. John's in DC and went on to earn his bachelor's degree in Social Studies in 1960 from Villanova University. He was awarded a master's degree in Education from George Washington University. Upon his graduation from Villanova, Tom returned to the DC Metro area to pursue a career as a teacher and coach. Tom's first teaching assignment was with St. John's College High School in Washington, D.C. His four years at St. Johns inspired his passion for teaching and coaching at the high school level. Tom then moved on to an opportunity with Fairfax County Public Schools when he joined the staff at James Madison High School, where he taught and coached for three years. Tom's work ethic and coaching were rewarded when Oakton High School opened in 1967, and he was offered the Varsity Baseball coaching position. He appreciated the opportunity a new school offered him to build a baseball program from the ground up. In addition to coaching baseball, Tom would also spend over 26 years as an OHS Varsity Football Assistant Coach. "Coach Hall", as he was called by his many players influenced many young men and led the program to several District & Regional titles, as well as a State Title runner up. He was also recognized as "Coach of the Year" five times during his career. The OHS baseball field is named in his honor, "Thomas K. Hall Stadium." In total, Tom spent 32 years coaching and teaching at OHS. In 2019, Tom was inducted into the Oakton High School Hall of Fame. He concluded his coaching career with a two-year period coaching baseball at Paul VI in Fairfax, VA. During his 41 years of coaching and teaching, Tom positively influenced the lives of both students and players. Services will be held at St. Raymond Catholic Church in Springfield, Virginia, on Tuesday May 11. The family will receive visitors at St. Raymond's on May 11 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Mass will start at 12 p.m., followed by a gravesite ceremony at Fairfax Memorial Park. Mr. Hall was my government teacher at Oakton High School. The first thing he did in that class was to teach us how to take notes in class. This is something I had never been taught before and it really prepared me for college. I have always been a note taker ever since, thanks to him.

Coach Hall, enjoyed playing for him and treasured our friendship that started long before that and lasted long after. My condolences to Mrs. Hall and to the family. He will be missed but never forgotten.

I think I played on the first baseball team Tommy ever coached. It was the JV team at St John's in 1961. He was a superb teacher and coach, and an even better human being. Rest in peace Tommy
