VIJAI SINGH Obituary
Dr. VIJAI PAL SINGH
Dr. Vijai Pal Singh passed away on July 2, 2017 in West Orange, New Jersey. Born in Palwal, India in 1938 he was educated at Sanwar school and Amritsar Medical College in India, started radiology residency in Canada and completed it at Georgetown University in DC. He worked at DC General, Freedmans Hospital and the VA Hospital in DC and at McKeesport Hospital and Uniontown Hospital in PA until he retired around 2013. Family and friends will remember Dr. Singh as intelligent and witty as well as an antique stamp collector and adventurous globe trotter. Dr. Singh was predeceased by his wife of 32 years Mary Kelly Singh. He is survived by their daughter Sonita Singh of Washington, DC; second wife for the past nine years Asha Deshpande of West Orange, NJ and her two sons and their families. A memorial gathering will be held at Chase Point Condominium Clubroom in Washington, DC on August 19, from 1 to 4 p.m.

I will not forget the time your parents couldn't stop telling you to be careful as you backed out of the driveway, driving the car with a couple of friends in it, as though it was your first time driving yourself. Among other memories of your parents, I have fond ones of traveling with you and your father and cousin in India....You are in my thoughts.

I came to know Vijay Pal Singh about 40 years ago. He was a bigtime collector of stamps. We both had a common interest in collecting guns. He would travel around the world and go to India at the drop of a hat. He gave my kids Arvin and Amina a Carrom Board and a set of wooden tokens to go with it. We still have it and I remember Vijay whenever I see it. He would regale me with stories of his childhood home in Palwal. He was known for buying new cars in Uniontown every few months. Once, he bought a car, and when Sonita saw it she said "Boo-rring". Vijay was a good friend and I miss him. Arun
