Logan West Wilson
June 12, 1926-September 23, 2023
Logan West Wilson, 97, of Desert Hills, AZ and formerly of Traer, IA, died Saturday, September 23, 2023, at Hospice of the Valley Campus, in Phoenix, AZ. Logan was born on June 12, 1926, in Waterloo, IA, the only child of David and Rachel Logan Wilson. Immediately following his high school graduation, Logan entered the US Army joining the Allied Forces in World War II. He saw action in the Philippines and was part of the occupying force in Japan.
Upon returning from the Army, Logan married Elaine Gail Johnson in Reinbeck, IA and the couple farmed near Traer, IA. Logan attended the Gates Business College in Waterloo and was a mid-level executive with John Deere Waterloo Tractor Works in their Time Standards Division. Logan and Elaine welcomed five children to the union.
At age 55, Logan retired from John Deere and moved to Colorado where he, the ever loving, real day cowboy, raised horses and was a back country hunting guide. He eventually moved to the ranch at Desert Hills where he continued raising horses. Logan loved to team rope, roped cattle and rode horses almost daily. He continued team roping until around age 75, when he decided to slow down a little. Logan was proud of his veteran status and remained a member of Kubik-Finch American Legion Post 142 in Traer right up to his death.
Logan is survived by his wife of 76 years, Elaine, of Desert Hills, AZ; children David (Holly) Wilson of Nevada, Sue Danskin of Waterloo, IA, and Reid (Leslie) Wilson, of Cedar Falls, IA; 13 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild who the family is anxiously waiting to arrive. Logan was preceded in death by his children, Jeffrey Wilson and Lynne Bryson, and son-in-law Gregory Danskin.
Graveside funeral services with military honors will be at 3 PM Thursday, October 19, 2023, at Waterloo Memorial Park Cemetery, 3430 W, 4th Street, Waterloo, with military honors by Kubik-Finch American Legion Post 142 and the Iowa Patriot Guard Riders. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be directed to Hospice of the Valley, 1510 E. Flower St., Phoenix, AZ 85014 (HOV.org).
