Myrna L (Jensen) Robinson
February 21, 1948-October 13, 2023
CEDAR FALLS – Myrna L (Jensen) Robinson, 75, long-term resident and teacher, passed away of cancer on October 13, 2023, in The Suites at Western Home Communities.
Myrna Lea Haas was born February 21, 1948, in Ames, Iowa, to Myra O. (Blickensderfer) and Albert G. Haas. She was the fourth of their five children raised in the Iowa communities of Colo and Ames. Myrna attended Colo Community Schools for all twelve grades. Throughout high school she was known for her academic excellence, musical talent, and spirit of friendliness. The State College of Iowa (SCI) at Cedar Falls was her next step in education. She and husband-to-be, Curtis Harrison Jensen of Cedar Falls, met during her first two years there. They married in 1968 and Myrna became an Air Force wife in Mississippi and Germany. Upon return to the University of Northern Iowa (UNI), she graduated with her teaching certification in 1971. Myrna remained steadfast in her role as 7th Grade English Teacher at Holmes Junior High for thirty-two years. She lost husband Curt to cancer in 2000. Until retirement in 2004, she continued her dual role as mother and teacher. In 2015 Myrna married Gregory Berle Robinson, Lake View, Iowa, after the rekindling of their high school dating relationship in their hometowns of Collins and Colo. They have thrived on common interests, traveling together, and the special spark of love renewed.
This lady was known for her wit, her beauty, and the ability to face life's challenges with endurance. She was the mother of two unique children who contributed immeasurably to her happiness. As a wife, Myrna supported and inspired her mate. She was Teacher for hundreds of teens in their Seventh-Grade transitions toward adulthood. As citizen and neighbor, she was known as "likeable beyond words".
Myrna loved to read. She inspired students and friends with her perceptions of storylines and authors. She participated in the Cedar Falls Public Library Morning Book Group and helped form a Neighborhood Reading Group with close friends. She was an avid birdwatcher, hosting many feathered friends in her backyard year-round. Her particular fascination with owls influenced her personal art. Myrna worked with equal zeal at maintaining special flowers in her yard and baking in her kitchen. She adored dogs. She respected nature in all its aspects.
Survivors include husband Greg, daughter Sara (Chris) O'Brien of Eagle Creek, Oregon, granddaughters Molly and Nora, son Benjamin Harrison Jensen of Waterloo, sister Beth (Darrel) Ozias of St Louis, Missouri, brother John (Kerry) Haas of Kirksville, Missouri, and numerous cousins of the Blickensderfer family. She was preceded in death by her parents, first husband Curt, sisters Rita Teig and Mary Crouse.
Interment will take place locally in the Hillside Cemetery and later at the Iowa Veteran's Cemetery in Adel. A Celebration of Myrna's Life will be conducted on November 4, 2023, at 2:30-4:30pm at the Western Home Communities Event Center, Jorgensen Plaza, 5307 Caraway Lane, Cedar Falls.
