Arthur F. Therian Jr., of South Windsor, CT (previously of Manchester) passed away Saturday August 30, 2025, at the age of 83. He passed away at home with his family by his side after a short but courageous battle with cancer. He was born on July 7, 1942, in Hartford, CT. and grew up on Franklin Ave. He was previously deceased by his Father, Arthur F. Therian Sr. and Mother, Anne (D'Allesandre) Therian. He leaves behind his beloved wife of 59 years, Gertrude "Trudy" (Gianninoto) Therian, his treasured daughters, Amy and Scott Washburn of Scottsdale, AZ and Jennifer Therian of Manchester, CT, and a brother Robert and Gail Therian of Colchester. His family was the light of his life and all who met him knew this about him.
Art served his country in the United States Navy from 1965-1967 on the USS Franklin D. Roosevelt during the Vietnam war. He was given the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal and Republic of Vietnam campaign Medal. In 1966, during leave from the Navy he went home to marry Trudy, who was the love of his life. After returning home from the Navy he and his wife purchased their first home in Manchester and started their family where many wonderful memories were made. They moved to South Windsor in 1992. He started his career as an Electrician at Millstone Nuclear Power Plant in Waterford, later working for HELCO (Hartford Electric Light Company) and eventually doing what his soul craved, opening his own landscaping business, Acorn Landscaping. During this work he found his true passion and expanded his business, which was working with stones as a mason. He had an amazing talent and skill and was well regarded by his customers and the community. He was known for his beautiful stonework with patios, walkways and country stone walls all over Connecticut. Although he retired in 2020, if he had a choice he would have never retired as he truly loved what he did.
He was a man who appreciated the simple things in life. He loved spending time with his family, gardening, working outside, creating things, going on walks and exploring the woods. He loved rocks, often collecting one from wherever a day trip brought us. He loved fishing, going to breakfast, having cookouts, Sunday rides, chipmunks, trees, peanut butter and jelly, hermit cookies, bananas, Moon Bakery italian bread, pizzelles, Nardi's pizza, candy, Shark Tank, the horse races and going to the dog track. He loved animals and kids and the simple joys they brought him and other people.
Known for his easy-going personality, people often felt like they knew him forever. There was never a person he met that didn't like him and never a person that he met that he didn't like. Although he only had 2 children, he had several who looked up to him as a father figure throughout the years. He will always be remembered for his sense of humor, his independence and his strong-willed nature as well as the deep love he had for his family and his home, the most important things in his life. Dad will be deeply missed and home won't be the same without him.
