United States Air Force Chief Master Sergeant (Retired) Michael R. Feld, 74, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Saturday, February 7, 2015, in Phoenix, Arizona. Michael was a beloved Husband, Father, and Papa and will be greatly missed. Each of us will lose a part of ourselves and all of our lives have been immeasurably enriched by knowing him. He had a great sense of humor, enjoyed life, and always brought out the best in everyone. Michael is survived by his loving wife, Karen, of 50 golden years (June 2015), their son Keven Feld (wife Kim and granddaughter Kyleigh) their daughter Kimberly Feld O'Donnell (husband Brian O'Donnell) all of whom he was extremely proud of.
Michael was born on January 2, 1941 to George H. Feld and Edna Winking Feld in Quincy, Illinois. He was number 10 of 11 children. His Mother, Father, Sisters and Brothers were an inspiration to him and served as examples and direction in his life. Michael is survived by 5 siblings. Ken (Vera), Pat (Dutch), Jack (Betty), Barb (Jack), Roger (Sharon). He was preceded in death by his parents and 5 siblings. Eileen (Roland), Jeanette (Ferd), Marian (Bob), Ed (Bernice resides in Illinois), Maureen (Pat).
Michael attended St. Francis Church and graduated from Notre Dame High School in 1959. Michael joined the United States Air Force on January 29, 1960, departing from the St. Louis Union Station. Michaels's first assignment was to Germany where he was stationed with an Aerial Medic Air Evacuation group. After serving 3 years overseas, and traveling extensively he then was stationed stateside. Michael married the love of his life, Karen Nordhagen Stageberg in Montana. Later they went to Quincy, Illinois, where their son, Keven, was born in the same hospital as Michael. The next move Michael was stationed at Sioux City AFB Iowa, where their daughter, Kimberly, was born. Many assignments followed: North Bend, Oregon AFS, Timaru, New Zealand, Offut AFB Nebraska, Cape Romanzoff, Alaska (remote), Wright Patterson AFB Dayton, Ohio, Luke AFB Phoenix, Arizona, Tyndall AFB Panama City, Florida.
Chief Feld's military decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal with 3 oak leaf clusters, Air Force Commendation Medal with 1 oak leaf cluster, Air Force Good Conduct Medal with 9 devices, Small Arms Expert Rifle/Pistol with 1 device, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, NCO Professional Military Education Ribbon with 1 device, Good Conduct Medal-Army. Humanitarian Service Medal.
During his active duty years Chief Feld continually worked toward his degrees and earned a Bachelor of Science degree, cum laude in Management of Human Resources from Park College and then a Bachelor of Science degree in Social Management.
While at Tyndall Air Force Base Florida, Michael decided to retire as Chief Master Sergeant (E-9) after having honorably served his country for 30 years.
The funeral service for Michael Feld is on Thursday, February 19, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. Arizona time. Located at Pinnacle Peak Mortuary 8555 E. Pinnacle Peak Road Scottsdale, Arizona 85255. There will be a funeral processional to the National Memorial Cemetery where Michael will be buried with full United States Air Force Military Honors at 1:00 p.m. Located at 23029 N. Cave Creek Road Phoenix, Arizona 85024.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Michael Feld's name to the Westby Assembly of God, c/o Mary Ellen Holt, 613 Sunnyside Avenue Plentywood, Montana 59254-1550.
There will be a time to share in rememberances and refreshments with the family at the home of Keven and Kim and Kyleigh Feld.
