Norman Klemz Obituary

April 11, 1945 - Jan. 9, 2021 On January 9, 2021 Norman passed away from COVID-19. He was 75 years old. Norm was born on April 11, 1945 at Community Hospital in Covina to Arthur Klemz and Edith Klemz (Maxson). He was buried on February 25, 2021 at Rose Hills Cemetery in the Maxson Family plot area. Norm is the grandson of the first mayor of West Covina, B. F. Maxson. He is survived by his wife, Patricia Klemz and his brother Harley Klemz. Norm graduated from Edgewood High School in West Covina in 1965. He went on to Mount San Antonio College and then onto Cal Poly where Norman graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Recreational Administration. Norm enlisted into the Navy and was in the Vietnam era. He was a medical corpsman with the Marines, when he left the Navy after serving six years. Norm had many civilian positions and ended his career at Kaiser Hospital where he retired as a medical claims examiner. After retirement, he started volunteering and became a poll worker during the election. He opened up his home to his neighbors to vote for 12 years. Norm was an Eagle Scout and rejoined the Boy Scouts as a Unit Commissioner, for about 10 years and won many awards. Norm was the President of the Friends of the Covina Library for about 8 years and helped with the book sales twice a year. Norm was a volunteer for 20 years for the Annual Festival of Books held in Los Angeles and sponsored by the LA Times. He was involved with the Covina Historical Society and the Covina Theatre. Norman was a member T.O.P.S. for TAKE OFF POUNDS SENSIBLY which is a group for people to lose weight and encourage them. But Norm's main love was the *Laurel and Hardy Fan Club* or the *Suns of the Desert*. He went to their monthly meetings and watched the movies and every two years the club had a convention and the couple went to Europe twice and had a ball. Norman also had a great love of the *Three Stooges* and when he talked about them, there was a smile on his face. He talked about the Three Stooges to everyone and gave away DVDs to anyone who would take one. We welcome all to his funeral and the celebration of his life.
