My deepest sympathy and condolences to Fred's family, friends, and co-workers. I have only known Fred for a short time but I could instantly tell he was a man of great depth and integrity. For all of his significant accomplishments in life, Fred was a humble, wise, and honest person which is a rare but wonderful combination. His contributions to NASA,NOAA,ATC & Panametics were significant. He was very passionate about his craft and loved sharing knowledge with others. Fred will be greatly missed on many different levels in the many lives he touched directly and indirectly. Fred's fingerprints and legacy will live on for many years in the complex technologies that he so passionately supported.

I knew Fred from his long association with the NOAA POES spacecraft. This goes back more than 20 years. His knowledge of the SEM instrument contributed greatly to its success. He will be missed by all of us at NASA.

Fred's instruments on GOES have helped protect astronauts and airline passengers from harmful radiation for many years, and they will continue to do so for years to come. Our thoughts are with you during this sorrowful time.
