Ruth Valentine Obituary

Ruth (Scofield) Valentine, formerly of Needham and Wellesley, ended her life journey peacefully on April 22, 2016 in her 92nd year. She was the daughter of Carl and Ella Scofield, and wife to Allard M. Valentine, Jr. who pre-deceased her in 1978. Her brother, Edward K. Scofield and his wife Lois reside in Stamford, CT. As her father was a nomadic missionary, Ms. Valentine was born in Nanking, China and educated in various New York and Connecticut communities. She met her husband prior to his deployment during WW II and her graduation from Springfield Nursing School. They eventually settled in Wellesley to raise their daughter, Carol. Over the years Ms. Valentine participated in numerous volunteer groups and church related activities. A talented craftswoman, seamstress, knitter and quilter, she was the anonymous gifter of tiny, hand-made Santa hats for the newborns at Newton-Wellesley Hospital. She enjoyed New England, her nursing career, Cocker Spaniel dogs, and tending her beautiful gardens. Ms. Valentine leaves her loving daughter, grandchildren Sara Madden and Nathan White, and great-grandchildren; Matthew and Allison Madden, Isabella and Lukas White, all of MA. She also leaves numerous nieces and nephews, their families and many friends (old and new) who were always given a kind word and a listening ear. Memorial services will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family requests any donations be made in her name to the MSPCA Angell 350 South Huntington Ave. Boston, MA 02130
