JONESVILLE - Mrs. Edith Mae Childress Winters, 60, died Sunday, May 18, 2003, at Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Winters was born Sept. 11, 1942, in Yadkin County to Thurmond and Fosie Snow Childress. She served as a nurse's aide for many years and later was a retirement-home administrator. She loved collecting anything concerning rabbits. Mrs. Winters was preceded in death by her parents. Surviving are her husband, Harold Eugene "Gene" Winters, of the home; a son, Nick Winters, of Winston-Salem; three sisters, Virginia Pratt and Glenda Brown, both of Yadkinville, and Judy Miller of Rockwell; and two brothers, Ray Childress of Yadkinville and Steven Childress of Boonville. A private service will be held. In lieu of flowers, the Winters Family requests that memorials be made to the American Diabetes Association, 1901 S. Hawthorne Road, Winston-Salem, NC 27103. The Winters family will receive friends at the home of Edith's sister, Virginia Pratt, Country Club Road, Yadkinville. Gentry Family Funeral Service in Yadkinville is assisting the Winters family.
