Glen Payne Obituary

KERNERSVILLE - Mr. Glen Elwood Payne Sr., 82, resident of 1617 Bainbridge Road, died Saturday morning, June 18, 2005, in the Kate B. Reynolds Hospital following declining health since December. Mr. Payne was born Jan. 20, 1923, in Forsyth County a son of Jasper C. and Alma Motsinger Payne. He had been a resident of Kernersville all of his life and was a retired employee of Modern Machine & Metal Fab Inc. Mr. Payne was a veteran of World War II having served with the 256 Field Artillery in the European Theater. He was a member of Hillcrest Baptist Church and Sunday school. On Dec. 2, 1943, he was married to Vera Eldridge who survives of the home. Also surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Denise Freeman and husband Michael of High Point, Mrs. Rebecca P. Boles of Germanton and Mrs. Barbara P. Miller of King; seven grandchildren, Angela L. Payne, Christy Payne Moore, Michelle Tuttle McDowell, Michael G. Tuttle, Samuel W. Cole, Tina C. McGee and Benjamin Boles; and six great-grandchildren. Mr. Payne was preceded in death by a son, Glen E. Payne Jr. The funeral service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday, June 21, in the chapel of Cumby Family Funeral Service in High Point by the Rev. Russell Reaves and the Rev. Robert Motsinger. Entombment will follow at Oaklawn Memorial Mausoleum. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 Monday, June 20, at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be Sam Cole, Kevin McGee, Michael Freeman, Michael Tuttle, Max Cole and Jay Thornton. Memorials may be directed to Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home, 101 Hospice Lane, Winston-Salem, NC 27103. Online condolences may be sent to www.cumbyfuneral.com
