Thomas SANDERS Obituary

SANDERS WINSTON-SALEM Thomas Alfred Sanders, Jr. Jan. 12, 1931 - Mar. 24, 2012 Mr. Thomas Alfred Sanders, Jr, 81, died on March 24, 2012 at his home. Mr. Sanders was born on January 12, 1931 to Thomas Alfred and Sallie Lentz Sanders. Mr. Sanders spent his early life and education in Winston-Salem, attending R. J. Reynolds High School; afterwards graduating from UNC-Chapel Hill, and the Bank Administration Institute School. He was married for 61 years to his childhood sweetheart, Betty Ruth Smith. He joined Wachovia Bank in 1956, working in the Accounting Department, and retiring as a Senior Executive Vice-President at the age of 55 after 30 years of service. Mr. Sanders was a member of Fairview Moravian Church. He was preceded in death by a son, Steve Sanders, and a brother, Sam Sanders. Surviving are his wife, Betty Ruth Smith Sanders, and a son Carl S. Sanders of Winston-Salem; and a grandson, Chris Sanders, of the U. S. Air Force; and brother Adam Sanders of Winston-Salem. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, March 27 at 2:00 p.m. at Fairview Moravian Church, with burial following in the Salem Moravian Graveyard. Rev. Scott Veneable will be officiating. There will no formal visitation. The family requests that memorials be made to Fairview Moravian Church, 6550 Silas Creek Parkway, Winston-Salem, NC 27106; and Kate B. Reynolds Hospice, 101 Hospice Lane, Winston-Salem, NC 27103. Online condolences may be made at www.salemfh.com
