Donald Lee Pinkerton, 73, of New Vienna, went to his heavenly home 8:22 p.m., Sunday, Feb. 9, 2014 at his residence surrounded by his family.
His wife, Linda S. Francis Pinkerton, survives. They were married Sept. 12, 1979.
Mr. Pinkerton was born Dec. 5, 1940 in Portsmouth, a son of the late Joseph E. and Marjorie M. Bond Pinkerton. He was a 1959 graduate of Simon Kenton High School. He served in the U.S. Navy.
Mr. Pinkerton worked in construction as an iron worker for many years for Brown and Root in Texas. He also worked for the Village of New Vienna for more than 30 years as the groundskeeper and caretaker of the New Vienna I.O.O.F. Cemetery. Most importantly, he was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and brother.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Pinkerton is survived by five sons, Allen R.E. (Lori) Pinkerton of Bellaire, Ohio, Michael D. (Sophia) Pinkerton of Highlands, Texas, Steven T. Pinkerton of Pearland, Texas, Charles J. (fiancée Jessica) Pinkerton of Peebles, and Jacob A.P. Pinkerton of Hillsboro; two daughters, Donna L. (Wesley) Smith of Willis, Texas and Sheila R. (Greg) Dawson of Martinsville; four brothers, Joseph E. Pinkerton Jr. of Seaman, Roger D. (Carolyn) Pinkerton of New Vienna, Randy T. (Mindy) Pinkerton of Wilmington, and Ronald W. (Melissa) Pinkerton of Waynesville; three sisters, Betty L. Burke of New Vienna, Mary S. (Merle) Pocholec of Veneta, Ore., and Joan L. (Kenneth Rex) Humphrey of Greenfield; 17 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, a brother, John H. Pinkerton Sr., a sister-in-law, Louise Pinkerton, and a brother-in-law, Robert Burke, are preceded in death.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m., Friday, Feb. 14, 2014 at the L. Eugene Smith & Son Funeral Home, 64 S. South St., New Vienna, with Rev. Joe Pinkerton officiating. Burial will be in Cowan's Creek Cemetery. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 13, 2014 at the L. Eugene Smith & Son Funeral Home.

My most sincere sympathy to all the family. I remember Don well from our class at Simon Kenton. He was a quiet person then, but was always happy to help in every way when asked. He was a friend to everyone. He will be missed.
