Frederick J. Stone

BLACKSTONE - Frederick J. Stone, 78, of Summer Street, Blackstone, passed away July 3, 2019, at home, surrounded by family. He was the husband of Catherine (Murray) Stone, whom he married Aug. 12, 1961. Born in Franklin, Mass., he was the son of the late Albin and Mildred (Dugas) Stone.

Fred was the owner and operator of Screen Art of Woonsocket. He also previously worked with H&H Screw Products of Lincoln. He served as Chairman of the Blackstone School Committee for 26 years, and as Treasurer of the Rhode Island State Elks for 10 years. Fred was awarded the R.I. State Elk of the Year Award in April of this year. Having served as Town Moderator in Blackstone, Fred enjoyed working at the polls for every election. He especially loved gardening, and his grandchildren.

Besides his wife, Catherine, Fred is survived by their two children, James P. Stone ,and his wife, Mary, of Blackstone; and Catherine Karlock, and her husband, Larry, of Canfield, Ohio; five grandchildren, Sean and Justin Stone of Blackstone; and Abbey, Paxton and Sydney Karlock of Canfield, Ohio; as well as two brothers, Edward Stone, and his wife, Nancy, of Mendon, Mass., and William, Stone, and his wife, Mary, of Blackstone.

His funeral will be held Wednesday, July 10, 2019, beginning with visitation at 9 a.m. in the Holt Funeral Home, 510 South Main St. Woonsocket, followed by a funeral service at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in St. Charles Cemetery, Farm St., Blackstone, Mass. Calling hours are Tuesday from 5 to 7 p.m. in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Salmon Hospice, 37 Birch Street, Milford, MA 01757.
