Mona M. Willis
WOONSOCKET - Mona M. (MacMillan) Willis, 80, of Woonsocket, passed away on Tuesday, January 30, 2024, surrounded by the love of her family. She is survived by her beloved husband and best friend of 60 years, John H. Willis.
Along with her husband John, she is survived by her sons, Christopher J. Willis and his wife Jeanne, of Barnstable, MA and Brandon Willis, and his fiance Erin, of Webster, MA; seven grandchildren, Kara, Lauren, Jordan, Connor, Daniel, Jacob, and Evan; and one great grandson, Cameron.
Mona was born in Thomaston, ME daughter of the late Garfield and Cecelia (Maxcy) MacMillan. At a recent gathering, her and her childhood friends told a story of their young entrepreneurship (8 years old) writing and publishing their own "Neighborhood News", charging 3 cents for all to read what the neighborhood was up to. Mona, was so smart that she even won the Betty Crocker award for the state of Maine and she doesn't even like to cook, but she aced the test! Graduating from Thomaston High School, Class of 1961, she went on to further her education earning a Bachelor's degree from Bryant University. She retired as the Director of Human Resources for Landmark Medical Center after 43 years of service.
Mona loved to read and do word puzzles in her spare time. Her expansive collection of TY beanie baby bears wasn't just a hobby, each held a special place in her heart, memories of moments shared with family. She truly adored her family and loved hosting family gatherings, especially Christmas, or as she may say, "her birthday". Anything that involved her family, was her true passion. Above all, Mona was a devoted matriarch, loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, and friend.
She is predeceased by her brothers, James, Miles (Bud), Gary and Alan MacMillan and her sister, Alma "Sherry" MacMillan Steele.
