Elvin Lamar Smith passed away Wednesday, February 5, 2025 at his home in Saltillo. He was 87 years old. Lamar was a lifelong native of Lee County, born June 17, 1937 to Curtis Elvin Smith and Wilma Christine Troupe Smith. He worked as a self-employed insurance agent and served in the National Guard.
Survivors include three children, Gary Smith and fiancé, Joyce of Belmont, Cheryl Rogers and husband, Harvey of Mesquite, Texas, and Marty Smith and wife, Melody, of Mooreville; his sister, Anita Stanford and her husband, Bobby, of Saltillo; and six grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Curtis and Wilma Smith; a brother, James Smith; and two sisters, Ione Wester and Louise Hodges.
There will be no services but friends are invited to share expressions of sympathy and fond memories on his tribute page. Pegues Funeral Directors is honored to be entrusted with arrangements.
